Set Up a Default Payment Spread for a Practice

NextGen® Enterprise PM can evenly apply a payment received for each line item with amounts due. When you set a distribution option in the Practice Preferences window, it becomes the default distribution option for the practice. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. Select Admin > Preferences > Practice The Practice Preferences window opens. Select Transactions under the Preferences list. In the Default Transaction Spreading, do the following: In Transaction Source, select the source of the transaction. Using FIFO Payment Spreads

You can use the FIFO or First In, First Out spread, to apply the payments starting with the oldest line items by the create date until the payment is distributed. When a transaction is entered for a non-third party payment, for example a patient payment, NextGen® Enterprise PM applies the payment FIFO to the patient responsibility. The Balance Control window for the encounters on which a payment is being made is used to calculate the patient responsibility. The payment is then applied in a FIFO manner in the following order: Encounter patient responsibility date or invoices first bill date. Encounter number or invoice number. V or I based on the above encounter or invoice. The charge sequence number. When a payment is received and a patient has several line items with amounts due, NextGen® Enterprise PM applies payments to line items using the selected spread options. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. On the main toolbar, select Posting . The Batch Posting window opens. Double-click the batch header record. The Payment Entry window opens. Enter the encounter number in Enc/Clm#. The account guarantor, patient, medical record number, and the billed account displays in the Payment Entry window. Select Open. The Payment Entry window is available for modifications. In Pay Amt and Adj Amt, enter the payment and adjustment amount respectively. Select the line items to apply the spread amount.` Right-click, and select Spread, and then select one of the following options: FIFO FIFO - Pat Resp Date Weight Distribution Select Save.
