Document No Tobacco Use or Unknown Tobacco Use

Expand the Tobacco Use panel. Tobacco Use panel Select an option for non-tobacco use: If the patient has no history of tobacco use, select the No/never option. For non-tobacco users who live with a smoker, use the Passive Exposure panel to capture their exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke. If the patient’s tobacco use is unknown, select the Unknown option. Do one of the following: Select OK. To document additional tobacco history, expand other tobacco template panels as needed. To document another social history, select one from the side navigation. Document Historic Tobacco Use

If the patient does not currently use tobacco but has in the past, select the No option for Have you used tobacco in the last 30 days at the top of the Tobacco use panel. Document Passive Tobacco smoke exposure

Patient's Tobacco Use Information

You can document the patient's current or past tobacco use information. You can document the patient's tobacco cessation efforts, vaping use details, and exposure to passive tobacco smoke in the following panels on the Social History - Tobacco template. Tobacco Use Historical Use Efforts To Quit Tobacco Vaping Use Passive Exposure Social History - Tobacco You can open the Social History – Tobacco template through the navigation bar, the History Summary panel on the Intake template, the Social panel on the Histories template, or the Risk Factors Config template. Document Current Tobacco Use

Expand the Tobacco Use panel. Select the appropriate option, if the patient: Currently uses tobacco, select Yes for to Have you ever used tobacco. Smoked tobacco in the last 30 days, select Yes for to Have you used tobacco in the last 30 days, and then record the types, quantities, and frequencies under the Smoking Tobacco Use section. Chews tobacco or takes snuff, select the Yes option for Have you used smokeless tobacco in the last 30 days, and then record the types, quantities, and frequencies under the Non-Smoking Tobacco Use section. Click OK or expand other tobacco template panels as needed to document additional tobacco history or select another social history from the side navigation. Document Passive Tobacco Smoke Exposure

If the patient engages in vaping, expand the Passive Exposure panel to document the patient’s vaping use. CAUTION: If you document tobacco use history, check the Tobacco Reviewed checkbox under the Past Medical History grid on the Subjective panel.
