Search for a Lab Test

If the lab test you want to order is not listed on the template, you can search for and add it. Open the Home or any other applicable template, select Orders from the upper navigation bar, and then select Lab Order or Single Order. In the Lab Order template or the Labs panel of the Single Order template, select Search. The IORTS Cfg Order Items Xpo window opens. Filter the lab tests by code or description. Document Details of Lab Tests

You can document the details of lab tests to order them for a patient. Open the Home or any other applicable template, select Orders from the upper navigation bar, and then select Single Order. Expand the Labs panel. Select one of the following options: Internal for lab tests performed and billed in your practice on the same day. External for lab tests performed and billed at an external facility. From Performing Entity, select the entity performing the lab test. Optional: Select the priority. Note: By default, R - Routine appears in Priority. Select one of the following options to filter the test grid: To display your custom list of configured tests, select My Tests. To display all configured standard tests, select All Tests. To display the custom list of tests configured for another provider, select Others, and then select the provider's name. Handle AOE Questions

Before you begin Before you begin, ensure that you have configured the Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers system master files in File Maintenance. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest File Maintenance Master Files Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. You can answer Ask at Order Entry (AOE) questions while ordering laboratory and diagnostic tests through performing entities that require AOE, such as such as Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics® . Open CPOE. Select an order item. Assign a diagnosis to the selected order item. Select the Laboratory or Diagnostic tab. Under the AOE Question Answer section, select the answers to the questions. Note: Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) displays an indication for any tests that are configured for AOE answers. CPOE automatically saves your answers. The following icons and buttons are available on the Labs tab: Button/Icon Description AOE To manage Ask on Order Entry (AOE) questions, click AOE icon on lab master and then AOE on Process and Submit Lab/Radiology template. Answer Lab AOE Questions

You can associate the Ask at Order Entry (AOE) questions with an order test in the File Maintenance Order Tests Master File. The AOE questions and the associated answers are configured in File Maintenance Order AOE Questions and Order AOE Answers master files. For information on AOE set up, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest File Maintenance Guides for NextGen® Enterprise. If the orders are associated with the Ask at Order Entry (AOE) questions, the icon appears next to AOE and an asterisk (*) appears in the AOE column in the grid. Click the warning symbol may be new symbol to open an alert message letting you know there are AOE questions to answer. To view and answer any AOE questions associated with the selected lab vendor, click AOE. The Lab AOE Questions template opens with a list of questions. Select a question in the AOE Questions grid. Answer AOE Questions for a Test

In the Select Tests tab, select a test that has AOE questions attached to it. Select the button next to the question to open the Test Details tab. The AOE questions associated with the test appear. A question is in bold if an answer is required. If you are ordering several tests for the same test order, and more than one asks the same AOE question, an icon appears before the test name. To display a tooltip, hover over the icon. Do one of the following: Enter the answer in the Answer field. For some questions, select in the Answer field, and select the answer from the list at the right of the Answer field. Select Save or Save & Send. If you try to save without entering an answer, a message appears prompting you to answer the question. If the answer is accepted, the order is saved.
