Work with a Grid

Template Editor enables you to use a grid to help you place and align data fields, labels, and buttons. When enabled, the grid displays vertical and horizontal dotted lines that are equally spaced through the background of a template. You can customize grid settings to define the vertical and horizontal spacing of dotted lines in the grid. The default is set to 10 dots per inch (dpi).
  1. The grid is visible only within the Template Editor design area, not on the template itself.
  2. To turn the grid on and off, select Toggle Grid on the Main toolbar.
  3. To change grid settings, select Grid Settings on the Main toolbar.
    The Grid Settings window opens.
  4. Under Spacing, select the Width and Height.
  5. To save your changes, select OK, or to exit without saving your changes, select Cancel.
After grid settings are defined, you can snap objects (data fields, buttons, and labels) to the grid.

Changes to grid settings do not change the placement of the fields on a template. For example, if the original grid settings were 10x10, changing them to 12x12 does not force all existing fields to fit 12x12 settings.
