Set up Print Report Trigger

The Print Report action can be triggered to automatically generate and print a specific Crystal Report from a template. You can select options to:
  • Preview the report before printing it.
  • Print the report on a default printer.
  • Print the report from a non-production database using the NextGen® Report Server.
  • Print and save the report to the patient's chart in NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
  • Generate and save the report to the patient's chart without printing it.

For more information on Crystal Reports, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Reports User Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR.

  1. Follow the applicable steps in General Trigger Setup.
  2. Select the Print Report action.
    The Print Report window opens.

  3. Select the report you want to print from the reports listed in the window.

If you have set up an Alternate Report Path Universal Preference, select the Alternate Path check box to display the reports stored in that location.

For more information on Universal Preferences for Reports, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest System Administrator Guide for NextGen Enterprise.

  4. In the Type section, select the report type:
    • Encounter (default). The current encounter for the current patient
    • History. All encounters for the current patient
    • Generic. All encounters for all available patients
  5. If you select History or Generic, the Filter section is enabled. You can select options to filter the report by System, Enterprise, or Practice.
  6. Select the preview and print options you want to use.
    • Preview & Fax. Preview the report in the Crystal Report Viewer and then print it.
    • Preview (default). Preview the report in the Crystal Report Viewer before you print it.
    • Print. Print the report without previewing it.
    • None. Generate the report without previewing or printing it. You can save the report to the patient's chart using the Save to Chart option. Clear the Use Default Printer check box.
    • Alternate Path. Generate the report from an alternate path you have set up in Universal Preferences.
    • Use Default Printer (default). Print the report on your default printer. You can select this option in addition to one of the other print/preview options. If you do not want to use your default printer or print the report, clear the check box.
    • Use Report Server. Generate the report from the NextGen Report Server in a non-production environment. This option may be useful for generating large reports. The Domain Server Name (DSN) is listed under ReportSource1 in the ngconfig.ini file.

For more information on the Report Server, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Reports User Guides for NextGen® Enterprise EHR.

    • Save to Chart. Save the report to the patient's chart. If you create this trigger on a System or Practice template, this option is not applicable.
The Report Name On Patient Chart field is enabled. You can enter the report name here, or leave the field blank, and enter the name at run time.
  7. To save the information and close the window, select OK.
  8. If necessary, set up a specific condition for the Print Report action to be triggered.
