Set up Patient Item Trigger

The Patient Item action launches an existing patient chart document or image by its ID for quick viewing without searching the patient's encounter tree. The item can be under any locked or open encounter on the patient's chart.
You can launch the following types of patient items:
  • Document
  • Email
  • Document Management (ICS) image
  • Image
  • Patient Education topic
  • Report

To use the Patient Item trigger, set up another trigger to assign the specific patient encounter item ID to a template variable or field. For example, you can create a patient document ID variable and a Summary Sheet that displays patient document information. You can then assign the item ID from a Row Selected event/Assign Field Value trigger on the Summary Sheet to the patient document ID variable.

You can place the Patient Item trigger on a Medical Records (MR) template, Group MR template or a Sidebar template.

  1. Follow the applicable steps in General Trigger Setup.
  2. Select the Patient Item action.
    The Patient Item window opens.

  3. From the Module list, select the item you want to launch.
  4. From the Item ID list, select the template variable or field that populates the ID for the specific patient encounter item.
  5. If necessary, set up a specific condition for the Patient Item action to be triggered.
  6. Select OK and save your template.
