Use In-place Field Caption Editing

You can enter a caption directly in a selected label, push button, radio button, checkbox, or active text field in place of entering it in field property. Fields with captions are transparent in Template Editor. Note: You cannot change field captions on NextGen® Enterprise EHR. To use in-place caption editing when you create a field, do the following: Leave the caption blank in the Insert field window. After you create the field, select the field on the template, and enter the caption. To remove the caption you just entered, select Undo or select CTRL+Z. To use in-place caption editing to edit an existing field caption, do the following: Select the field on the template and enter the caption. The new caption overwrites the existing caption. Share Fields between Templates

You can share the following types of fields from one template to another: Data entry (edit), Check box, Radio button, Active text, and Note. Triggers on the shared field are not carried over. You can add a shared data entry field to a template even if it has reached the maximum data size of 7940 characters. The total data size is the sum of the length of all data entry fields. Field comments do not update for shared fields while importing. Open the template that you want to use the field on. Create a field of the same type on the template. In the window that appears, select the template containing the field you want to share from the Table list. Select the field name from the Field list. Copy a Field without Triggers

You can copy only active text, check box, data entry (edit), or radio button fields. The fields can be native to the template or shared from another template. You can copy existing local fields the same way you do other fields. To create a local field from a copied field, see Copy a Field as a Local Field. Do one of the following: To display copy options, right-click the field, and then select Copy Field. In the template, right-click where you want to place the copied field, and select Paste Field. Select the field, and then select CTRL+C. In the template, select where you want to place the copied field, and select CTRL+V. The window for inserting the selected field type appears. For example, if you select a data entry field, the Insert Data Entry window opens. Insert Data Entry window Note: You cannot change the Table name. If you copy a shared field, the table name for the new field is taken from the native template (the template currently open), not the source template for the share

Copy Fields within the Same Template

You can copy and paste active text, check box, edit (data entry), or radio button fields with or without triggers within the same template only. The fields can be native to the template or shared from another template. When you right-click a field or in the template body, a menu displays the available copy and paste options: Copy Field. Copies the field only. Copy Field with Triggers. Copies the field and its triggers. Paste Field. Pastes the field if you selected Copy Field. Pastes the field and its triggers if you selected Copy Field with Triggers. Alternatively, you can use keyboard commands to copy a selected field and any associated triggers to a new field on the same template. You can copy and paste existing local template fields the same way you do other fields. You can also copy a field with or without triggers as a local field using a keyboard command. Local Template Fields

On a template, you can temporarily set up the following types of fields as local fields that are not saved to the database: Data entry (edit) Check box Radio button You can set up triggers for local template fields as you do for non-local fields. Note: The Template Editor in NextGen® Enterprise EHR Admin mode enables you to reconfigure text fields to support default actions. The length of the text field types defaults to 1 instead of 0 for text box, check box, and radio button fields. You can select local from the Table list on the Insert window for each of these fields.
