Actions Limitation on Shared Fields

There is a restriction control on the usability of triggers on a shared field on templates that are concurrently active at run time. If the shared field is populated on the “in-focus” template, some triggers on the shared field may be disabled on the “out-of-focus” template. Parent topic: Triggers

Triggers

A trigger is an event that causes an action within a field on a template. For example, a picklist appears when a data entry (edit) field is accessed, or another template opens when a button is selected. Some of the actions can be set up to take place only if certain predefined conditions are met. Triggers may use variables, functions, or macro functions. Template triggers are the most integral and vital element of Template Editor. Templates can be used without triggers, but using triggers improves the efficiency of templates. You are encouraged to use triggers as much as possible. Copy Fields within the Same Template

You can copy and paste active text, check box, edit (data entry), or radio button fields with or without triggers within the same template only. The fields can be native to the template or shared from another template. When you right-click a field or in the template body, a menu displays the available copy and paste options: Copy Field. Copies the field only. Copy Field with Triggers. Copies the field and its triggers. Paste Field. Pastes the field if you selected Copy Field. Pastes the field and its triggers if you selected Copy Field with Triggers. Alternatively, you can use keyboard commands to copy a selected field and any associated triggers to a new field on the same template. You can copy and paste existing local template fields the same way you do other fields. You can also copy a field with or without triggers as a local field using a keyboard command. Share Fields between Templates

You can share the following types of fields from one template to another: Data entry (edit), Check box, Radio button, Active text, and Note. Triggers on the shared field are not carried over. You can add a shared data entry field to a template even if it has reached the maximum data size of 7940 characters. The total data size is the sum of the length of all data entry fields. Field comments do not update for shared fields while importing. Open the template that you want to use the field on. Create a field of the same type on the template. In the window that appears, select the template containing the field you want to share from the Table list. Select the field name from the Field list. Parent topic: Adding Fields to a Template
