Additional VIS Documents
You can download additional VIS documents from the CDC website, if necessary. For example, you may need the VIS documents that are written in another language or the updated VIS documents. Note: After you download and place the additional VIS documents in the VIS folder, you must attach them to the appropriate vaccines. Attaching VIS Documents to a Vaccine Item
You can associate (attach) VIS documents to the appropriate vaccine. You need to attach VIS documents for vaccines if the VIS document is published in a language other than English, or if a VIS document has been updated. Note: : The VIS documents that are included in the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Products upgrade package are already attached to the appropriate vaccines. Based on Immunization Requirements Spec 1.5, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has assigned 2D barcodes to the VIS documents. All VIS documents added after April, 2012 contain a 2D barcode. To support this initiative by the CDC, when you upgrade to NextGen Version, 5.8 UD3 or later, NextGen® Enterprise EHR includes the CDC Document Type and updates the Edition Date/Publish Date for VIS documents (published in the English language only). In File Maintenance, select System > VIS SetUp. The VIS SetUp List window opens. Select an existing vaccine. Select the Open Menu button, and then select Open. The Update VIS Document window opens. Update the Description. If required, update the Document Type. For example, if the CDC has modified the Document Type for this VIS, select Lookup. For more information on how to change Document Type, see Attach a VIS Document to a Vaccine Item. If required, select the Vaccine Type from the list, if necessary. Select OK. Setting up the VIS Documents
You must set up the VIS documents to print or view them when ordering and administering a vaccine. Note: The VIS documents (that is, written in the English language) that are shipped with the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Products upgrade package are already attached to the appropriate vaccines. For information on how to attach additional VIS document to a vaccine, see Attach a VIS Document to a Vaccine Item. You can set up the VIS documents as follows: Create the VIS folder within the NextGen Root directory. Note: After the VIS folder has been created in the NextGen directory, you do not need to re-create this folder for any subsequent system updates. Copy the VIS documents to the VIS folder. After setting up the VIS documents, you can download and attach the VIS documents to specific vaccines, if necessary. Note: You can download additional VIS documents from the CDC website, if necessary. For example, you may need to download updated VIS documents to add the Document Type code. Update the
