Field	Description
Specimen Type	Specimen type indicates whether the specimen would be blood, saliva, urine, etc.
Minimum Volume	Minimum volume indicates what the minimum amount of specimen to collect is. This is a measurement such as 2 ml.
Suggested Volume	Suggested volume indicates what the suggested amount of specimen to collect is.
Method	Method indicates how to collect the specimen, for example blood draw.
Collection	Details on how the specimen is collected, for example, split-specimen or midstream catch of urine.
Container	Container indicates where the specimen would be collected such as a tube or specimen cup.
Instructions	Instructions indicate any instruction for user collecting specimen such as fasting.
Storage	Storage indicates how to store the specimen, for example: Room temperature, Frozen, etc.

Add or Modify a Test Order

Select File Maintenance > Master Files > System > Order Tests.Do one of the following: To add a new item, select open menu , and then select New. To modify an item, double-click the item to open it. Alternately, you can select the item in the list, select open menu , and then select Open. The Modify Order Test Information window displays the Test Details tab. Enter the order test details for each of the listed categories. For those categories that have a folder icon, select the folder and use the resulting window to select items from a list. Select the Specimen Handling tab. Enter the specimen handling information for each individual test order defined. Select the Options tab. Under Update Workflow Task Items, select the users to notify of the test results. These can include the ordering provider, the user who created the order, and an additional user.Selecting the users to notify on this window is backward compatible only. Select the ordering provider and order creator in Preferences.

Adding or Modifying a Test Order in the Order Tests List

Each test vendor has to have each test order used in NextGen® Enterprise EHR defined for that specific vendor. For example, if you use three vendors to process tests, and you have common tests for blood work, glucose, cholesterol, throat cultures and iron counts, you must create three versions of each test, one version for each vendor. This graphic shows an example of a Glucose test in the master files defined for three different vendors. Note: When searching for items in the Order Tests List, you can change the focus of the search from System to Order Test Key to Order Test Description by selecting in the menu bar to move the highlight button to the item on which you want to use to complete the search. After you set the focus as described above, you can create vendor-specific groups of tests that are set up in the preferences for your location or for specific providers. Specimen Collection Panel

The Specimen Collection panel allows you to document all of the information needed to send the pathology specimen to a lab for processing, and to print out a complete lab requisition containing all the required documentation. You can print individual lab requisitions for an individual or a group of specimens when all the specimens are being sent to a single lab. Specimen Collection Filters and Fields in the Specimen Collection Panel Description Specimen collection filter Default filter for the grid. Displays all specimen records. Use the Send to and Ordered fields to filter the specimen records. Specimen order Displays the status of the specimen records. Edit button Displays when the Specimen order filter is selected. Allow you to edit the status of the order or enter the result. Requisition button Generates the lab requisition document.
