Update Patient Insurance through OCR

Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. On the main toolbar, select Chart. On Patient Lookup, enter search criteria and select the patient. In the Insurance Listing section, right-click the existing insurance of the patient, and then select Open Insurance Information.The Insurance Maintenance window opens. In the Ins Cards tab of the Insurance Cards section, select the open menu icon. On Scanning Device Input, select Open Menu > Acquire.The window layout may be different for other scanners. The settings are typically similar. For more information, refer to the documentation for your scanner. On ScanShell 800DX, select the Custom Settings tab and do the following: Select Double Sided. Select Color. From the Resolution(dpi), select 600. From the Scan size, select Business card (90 x 55mm). Insert the insurance card in the scanner. Note: In the ScanShell 800DX window, the Paper sensor field glows in green, indicating that the inserted card is ready to scan. Select Scan. Both sides of the card are sc

Normalize Capitalization of the OCR Patient Demographic Information

Open NextGen® Enterprise PM. Select Lookup. In People Lookup, enter search criteria and select Find. From the Matching Records list, double-click the a patient. In the Update Patient Information window, right-click the square photograph area in the upper left, and then select Open or New. Modify person information window From the Scanning Device Input window, select the open menu icon, and then select Acquire. OCR Scanner Requirements

To capture a patient's demographic and insurance information, use an OCR scanner that can do the following: Scan cards Scan both the front and back of a card in one pass (a duplex scanner is not required, but highly recommended for accuracy) Produce color images Scan at 300 dpi for insurance cards and 600 dpi for both sides of the driver’s license Produce cropped scanned images Be TWAIN compatible The scanner must be connected to the same computer/system that the application is installed in. Using OCR to Update Patient Information and Insurance

To facilitate updates and reduce the risk of data entry errors, you can employ Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to retrieve a patient's demographic and insurance data from scans of the patient's driver’s license and medical insurance card. The driver's license supplies the patient's first, middle, and last names, address, date of birth, and sex. The insurance card supplies the patient’s payer and policy-related information such as the policy number, group name, group number, and policy expiration date. Note: : A license is required to use the OCR feature. To obtain a license, contact NextGen Healthcare Client Support. Changes made to the patient's demographic and insurance data through the OCR feature are audited.
