NextGen® Enterprise EHR
and open the medication module.
Select a medication.
Enter the required medication information.
Do one of the following:
Hover over
Add Sig
.
Select
Add Sig

Select the automatically populated SIG Code.
The most commonly used Pediatric SIG from First Data Bank appears.
Clear the
Common Sigs
check box to display all available SIG codes.
If no pediatric SIG Code for the selected medication exists, select
Calculator
to display the
Pediatric Dosing Calculator
window.
Note:
The pediatric calculator may be unavailable for multi-ingredient medications being prescribed to a pediatric patient.
Select one or more of the following:

2 Times
3 Times
4 Times
Select a SIG Code or manually build a Pediatric SIG Code.
The selected pediatric SIG is automatically assigned to the selected medication.

Manually Build a Pediatric SIG Code
The pediatric calculator is unavailable for multi-ingredient medications being prescribed to a pediatric patient. In cases where no Pediatric IG code is available for the selected medication, you can manually build a SIG code. From the list of pediatric SIG codes, select Calculator. Calculator button The Pediatric Dosing Calculator window opens. Pediatric Dosing Calculator window In the Dose field, enter the dose. Select a unit of measure from the list. For Frequency, select a frequency from the list. The system calculates the SIG based on the patient's age and weight. Pediatric Dosing Calculator SIGs To display dosing range information, select . Dosing Range Information Note: By default, the display includes only the age range applicable to the selected patient. Select the Display All Ranges link to display all available ranges. Select OK. Pediatric SIG
For patients who are eighteen (18) years old or younger, you can add a Pediatric Sig code. The Medications module, by default, displays Pediatric Sigs for all patients under the age of 19. The pediatric sigs for the selected medication display in a list based on the following order: Unit of measure in alphabetical order. Dose for each unit of measure in ascending order. Frequency for each unit of measure/dose and then alphabetical order. Duration in alphabetical order for a specific frequency and dose. Use of Pediatric Sigs and Dosing in the Medications module requires the following: The user must be licensed for pediatric sigs. The Universal Preference Use Pediatric Sigs from FDB must be set to TRUE. A weight must be entered for the patient and display in the Medications module. Parent topic: Select a SIG

Select a SIG
After you enter the required medication information, you must select a SIG. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and access the Medications module. Select a medication. Enter all required medication information. Select or build a SIG. The selected SIG is automatically assigned to the medication. If the SIG contains more characters than the display allows, the text is truncated. If you hover the cursor over the truncated text, a tooltip displays the complete SIG. If the SIG exceeds the 140-character maximum for electronic prescriptions, an alert appears next to the SIG text. Select a SIG You can change the quantity and the interval of the medication by either typing the values or using the arrows to select the appropriate values. Open the SIG Builder
Enter all required medication information. Perform any one of the following: Hover over or select the Add Sig link. Select the automatically populated SIG to change it. Hover over or select the Edit Sig link. The availability of an automatically populated SIG in the advanced SIG builder depends on the information provided by the third party, First Databank.
