Track Reasons for Appointment Cancellations or Stopping Recalls for an Expired Patient

Use this procedure to do the following:

  • Expire a patient
  • Cancel future appointments and stop active recalls
  • Enter a Reason for Cancelling Future Appointments or Stopping Recalls
  1. Access the Modify Person/Patient Information Window for the patient that you want to expire.
  2. On the Modify Person/Patient Information window, select the Expired check box.
    The Expired Date field becomes active.
  3. In the Expired Date field, enter the date of death for the person/patient.
    A application message appears, asking if you want to cancel future appointments and stop active recalls.

  4. Do one of the following:
    1. Select Yes.
    2. If Appointment Cancellation Tracking or Recall Plan Stop Reason tracking is enabled in Practice Preferences, you will need to select a reason for the appointment cancellation or the recall plan stop reason then select OK.
      The Reason for Stopping Recall application message appears if your practice is tracking reasons for stopping recalls.

      The Reason for Appointment Cancellation application message appears if your practice is tracking reasons for appointment cancellations.

      Active recalls and future appointments will be cancelled.

    3. Select No.
      Future appointments and active recalls remain in the system.

      When the Modify Patient/Person window is reaccessed for the expired patient, a message displays asking if you want to cancel future appointments and stop active recalls for the expired patient.

      In NextGen® Enterprise PM, when you access the Patient's Chart, the application message will appear, asking if you want to cancel the active recalls and the future appointments.

    4. Select Cancel to return to the Modify Patient/Person Information window.
  5. Select OK.
