Renew Medications

You can renew any medication that was prescribed to a patient and subsequently saved to a patient's chart. The Start Date field in the Medications List automatically displays the date a medication is first prescribed. The first time a medication is dispensed in a renew chain, both the Original Start Date and Start Date fields in the Medications List display the same date. When the medication is renewed, the Original Start Date field remains the same while the Start Date field reflects the date of the renewal. Highlight the Inactive medication to renew. Select Renew. The Medications module displays the prescription status information for the selected medication above the medication name. The following status is displayed: Medication is Inactive Medication Was Prescribed In A Different Practice Encounter is Locked for This Medication Depending on the prescription status of the medication, you may not be able to renew the selected medication. Set Up Medication Search Favorites List

You can use favorites lists in medication search to create a list of frequently used medications grouped by the favorite name. You can prescribe a medication from a favorite list without performing a search. Open the Medication Search window. Medication Search Select the untitled tab. The Favorites 1 tab appears. Favorites 1 tab Search for a Medication to add to your favorites list. The Medication Search window displays the results of your search. The icon indicates there is a PDR Brief for the displayed medication. Medication Search results Select a medication and drag it in the Favorite 1 tab. Select a medicine and drag to Favorite 1 tab To remove medications from the favorites list, right-click the medication and select Remove. Right-click the tab or tab display pane and select Rename Group. The field to enter the favorite group name displays next to Rename Group. Rename Group Enter a name for the favorites list. Build Custom SIG

You can manually build an SIG for a medication. From the Medication module, open SIG Builder. Sig Builder In Admin, select a method of administration from the list. In Quantity, select the number of units from the list or enter a number. To select a quantity range, do the following. Select the Quantity as Range check box. The new list appears besides Quantity. In the list, select or enter the upper or lower range of the required quantity. In Unit of Measure, select a unit of measure from the list. In Route, select the preferred route from the list. Note: By default, the Show Route check box is selected. To hide Route, clear the Show Route check box. In Interval, enter or select the time interval between medication doses from the list. To select an interval range, do the following. Select the Interval as Range check box. The new list appears besides Interval. In the list, select or enter the upper range of the required interval. Open the Medication Search window. From the View menu, select Favorites Options. The Medication Search - Favorites Options window opens. Medication Search - Favorites Options window Select the applicable options. Note: The Hide Pediatric Sig Favorites on Adult Patients check box is selected by default at upgrade or install. Enter Additional Medication Information

You can set up or add additional information for the medication after you have entered the required medication information. Enter required medication information. To select the unit in the Units list, do one of the following: Select a unit of measure from the list. Enter a unit of measure up to a maximum of 32 characters. If the medication is an oral liquid medication, the field automatically displays Milliliter and cannot be changed. Additional Medication Information If the Units field is left blank, the auto-population feature that is used for prescribing new medications is used for the renewal while renewing a medication. In the Comments filed, enter non-clinical comments to the pharmacist of up to a maximum of 250 characters. For ePrescribing, the maximum characters limit is 210 characters. Set Up Medication Search Default Filter Options

Open the Medication Search window. From the View menu, select Default Filter Options. The Medication Search - Default Filter Options window opens. Medication Search - Default Filter Options window Do the following as applicable: To view the brand name of the medications, select Brand. To view the generic name of the medications, select Generic. To view a list of medications appropriate to a particular diagnosis, select Patient Problems. To view the selected health plan of the patient, select Payer. To view all medications available in the database, select All Medications. To view your favorite medications, select Favorite Medications and then select your favorite from the list. Select Apply.
