Send Patient Documents

Before you begin

To send the NextGen® Document Management images to NextGen® PxP Portal, ensure that the Rights > Operations > Imaging > Send Doc Mgmt Image to Patient Portal in System Administrator must be set to True and the necessary access rights must be enabled. If the right is set to No, the Send to Patient Portal option appears disabled for the selected image. You must also select the Patient Portal Accessible check box for the document type in File Maintenance.

You can export documents, images, or SAP® Crystal Reports® objects from NextGen® Enterprise EHR to NextGen® PxP Portal for patients enrolled in NextGen® PxP Portal. Any images sent to NextGen® PxP Portal are converted to a read-only .PDF file.
  1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and select a NextGen® PxP Portal enrolled patient from the Patient Lookup window.
  2. To view and export an item, do one of the following:
    • Select the Encounters tab,
      • Select an encounter, and select the Double arrow button to open the Encounter Details window.
      • Select the item to export, and select the button.

    • Select the Categories tab,
      • To view a category item, do one of the following:
        • Select List View from the list.
        • Select Tree View from the list.
          • To expand all categories; select a category, select Category Options, and select Expand All Categories.
          • To expand the selected category, select .
      • Select a category item to export, and select the document options button.

  3. Select Send to Patient Portal.
    The Patient Portal Document Export window opens.
  4. To add a comment, do one of the following:
    • Enter your comment in the comment section.

      The comment supports up to 1,000 characters.

    • To insert a standard response comment from the Standard Responses section, drag the comment into the comment box, or double-click the comment.

      You can edit the response or right-click the right pane to insert a practice, person or patient information (for example, name or address) field. Standard responses are set up in File Maintenance (practice defined) or user-defined (customized).

  5. Select Send.
    A message appears confirming that the document is successfully sent to NextGen® PxP Portal.
  6. Select OK.
    An email notification is sent to the patient's email address, and the item is added to the NextGen® PxP Portal document history.
    • If you have sent the document to NextGen® PxP Portal in the Encounters tab, the icon appears next to the document icon.
