Acknowledge Allergy - Drug Interactions

The DUR checks the selected allergy against the list of all active medications. If any interactions are found, they appear on the Interaction Check DUR window. Note: User-defined allergies and medications are not checked for interactions. The display of allergy interactions is based on the display levels set for the system and/or a specific user. If the Show DUR across enterprise option is enabled, NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks for possible interactions with the patient's medications across all practices. CAUTION: You must review and acknowledge each interaction alert. If you select the Cancel button, your action is audited, and you must enter the reason for cancellation. Take the necessary steps to avoid an adverse reaction for the patient. Repeat the following steps for each interaction alert. Select the interaction alert. Allergy DUR Preferences

This section outlines the preferences that can be used to perform an allergy interaction DUR: Setting up the Medications Operations Right for Interaction Display Level. You can select User Group in Enterprise Practice > Rights > OPERATIONS > Medications. Drug to Allergy Interaction

A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with a patient's medication allergy. If such interaction occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The Drug Interaction window lists the medication that caused the interaction, and information for each listed patient medication allergy. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all notices listed in the Drug Interaction window and specify the reason for overriding the warning. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications or user-define allergies. If the Enterprise option to check for interactions across practices is enabled, the medication interaction process checks for possible interactions across all practices. Check Medication Allergy Interactions

You can check for interactions between a patient allergy and all of the active medications prescribed to the patient. Open the Medication Allergies module. Select an active medication allergy. Select Interactions. NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks the selected allergy against the list of all active medications. If there is an interaction, the Interaction Check DUR window opens. Interaction Check DUR Note: The display of allergy interaction is based on the display levels set for the system, a specific user, or both. Highlight the listed medication to view the summary of the existing conflict. NextGen® Enterprise lists a summary of effect and level of risk. Select OK to close the Interaction Check window. Enter the Medication Allergy Details

Once you selected an Allergen and Allergy Type, select a Location and Provider. Select the Intolerance check box if the patient is intolerant to the medication. EHR Medication To specify the severity of the allergy, select a Severity from the list. To specify that the allergy you are adding is recorded elsewhere, select the Recorded Elsewhere check box. The Source field is available to enter a source. To enter the date the allergy or its symptoms began, click the Onset/Sym Search button. A calendar opens to select an onset date. To enter the date the allergy was resolved, click the Resolved Search button. A calendar opens to select a resolved date. Note: If the Onset Date or Resolved date is unknown, you can use 00/00/0000. To specify the type of reaction the patient has due to the medication allergy, click the Reaction arrow and select a reaction type from the list. Patient Problem Trigger Overview

You can run a Patient Problem trigger to add, update, delete, or track a patient's clinical problem instead of using the Problems module. The trigger action updates the patient's clinical problem list in the Problems module. Clinical problems are codified and represented by SNOMED-CT clinical concepts and descriptive terms or synonyms. The Patient Problem trigger is set up in Template Editor. When you run the Patient Problem trigger to add a selected SNOMED-CT problem, a Drug Utilization Review (DUR) may be performed based on your enterprise and user preferences.
