Enable the Suppression of DUR Alerts at the Practice Level

Open File Maintenance. Select Master Files > System > EHR. Select Practices. The Practices List window opens. Double-click a practice. The Modify Practice Information window opens. Select Preferences. The Practice Preferences window opens. From the Preference List pane, select Medication. Select the Allow practice to suppress specific DUR interactions check box. The Can users suppress specific DUR interactions check box becomes available. Can users suppress specific DUR interactions check box To allow users to suppress specific DUR interaction alerts, select the Can users suppress specific DUR interactions check box. The five minimum-level lists become available. Specify the minimum interaction level that the user can select. The list of interactions to suppress loosely matches the list of interactions the user can check for in the Medications module. Drug to Allergy Interaction

A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with a patient's medication allergy. If such interaction occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The Drug Interaction window lists the medication that caused the interaction, and information for each listed patient medication allergy. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all notices listed in the Drug Interaction window and specify the reason for overriding the warning. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications or user-define allergies. If the Enterprise option to check for interactions across practices is enabled, the medication interaction process checks for possible interactions across all practices. DUR Preferences

The Drug Utilization Review (DUR) preferences enable you to create a predefined list of the override reasons required for acknowledging all DUR interactions. If you have the necessary user rights and permissions, you can set the following display levels: Interaction Display Level Condition Interaction Display Level Pediatric Precautions Display Level Geriatric Precautions Display Level Allergy Interactions Display Level Note: The interaction default value should be equal to or greater than the interaction minimum value for all interaction settings in Universal Preferences. Medication Interactions

A new medication prescribed to a patient or an existing medication being renewed can have a negative interaction with either an allergy or another medication previously prescribed. The medication can create a disease contraindication or be a duplicate of an already prescribed medication. The medication interaction process checks for all possible instances and displays a Drug Interaction window that lists all interactions, contraindications and duplications. The Drug Interaction window display of drug and allergy/drug interactions, disease contraindication, and geriatric and pediatric precautions is based on the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications and allergies. If the DUR - Display alert on User Defined Allergies (UDAs) or DUR - Display alert on User Defined Medications (UDMs) Universal Preference is enabled, you are warned that "User Defined Allergy/ Non-Screened Allergy" or "User

Geriatric Precautions

Geriatrics Precautions contain information about the use of medications by patients who are over the threshold set for geriatric age. The NextGen® Enterprise default for geriatric age is 65 years of age; however, you can modify the age threshold by changing the value of the Geriatric Age Universal Preference. When a contraindication exists, the DUR displays the following information: Severity level of the precaution Indicators for select organ systems associated with the precaution Precaution narrative You must acknowledge all drug interactions and select a reason for overriding the warning before you can add the medication.
