Disease Contraindication

A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with an existing patient diagnosis. If a contraindication occurs, the Drug Interaction window opens. The window specifies the medication that caused the contraindication, and information about each prescribed medication that causes a drug interaction. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all drug interactions and select a reason for overriding the warning before you can add the medication. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications. If the Enterprise option to check for interactions across practices is enabled, the medication interaction process checks for possible interactions across all practices. Drug to Allergy Interaction

A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with a patient's medication allergy. If such interaction occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The Drug Interaction window lists the medication that caused the interaction, and information for each listed patient medication allergy. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all notices listed in the Drug Interaction window and specify the reason for overriding the warning. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications or user-define allergies. If the Enterprise option to check for interactions across practices is enabled, the medication interaction process checks for possible interactions across all practices. Available Interaction Checks

The medication interaction process is optional and depends on the Universal Preferences that are enabled in System Administrator. Enter a Reason for Cancelation of Drug Interactions

If you cancel out of the Drug Interaction window, your action is audited, and you must enter the reason for cancellation. In the Drug Interactions window, select Cancel. The Cancel Drug Interaction Confirmation window opens. Drug Interaction Do one of the following: Select No to cancel your action, go back to the Drug Interaction window and acknowledge all possible interactions. Create List of Medication Interaction Override Reasons

You can create a list of override reasons to choose from to acknowledge drug interactions. Access NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the Tools menu, select Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Medications tab. Select DUR. The DUR Preferences window opens. DUR Preferences Enter an override reason. Select Add.
