Set Allergy Interactions Display Level

You can set the allergy interactions display levels in the DUR Preferences as per your preference to see allergy interactions or inactive ingredient interactions in the Drug Interaction window. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. From the top toolbar, select Tools > Preferences. The Preferences window opens. Select the Medications tab. Select DUR. The DUR Preferences window opens. Select the Allergy Interactions Display Level tab. Select a display level. To display the inactive medication ingredient interactions along with the allergy interactions, select the Allergy Interaction checking for Inactive Medication Ingredients check box. To display the interactions based on the universal system setting, select the Use System Default check box. Note: The Use System Default option disables Allergy Interaction checking for Inactive Medication Ingredients and the display levels. Select OK. Parent topic: Drug to Allergy Interaction

Drug to Allergy Interaction

A new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with a patient's medication allergy. If such interaction occurs the Drug Interaction window opens. The Drug Interaction window lists the medication that caused the interaction, and information for each listed patient medication allergy. The Reference at the bottom of the window displays the citation for the DUR information. You must acknowledge all notices listed in the Drug Interaction window and specify the reason for overriding the warning. The medication interaction process displays drug interactions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. The medication interaction process does not perform checks on user-defined medications or user-define allergies. If the Enterprise option to check for interactions across practices is enabled, the medication interaction process checks for possible interactions across all practices. Levels of Disease Contraindications

The Medication Interactions functionality displays drug-disease contraindications according to the display levels set up for the system and a specific user. There are three levels of the Drug Disease Contraindications: Level 3: Moderate Interactions. Conservative measures are recommended until more is known (little clinical data exists). Level 2: Severe Interactions. Assess risk to patient and take action as needed. Level 1: Contraindicated Interactions. Action to reduce adverse effect of interaction is usually required. Check Medication Allergy Interactions

You can check for interactions between a patient allergy and all of the active medications prescribed to the patient. Open the Medication Allergies module. Select an active medication allergy. Select Interactions. NextGen® Enterprise EHR checks the selected allergy against the list of all active medications. If there is an interaction, the Interaction Check DUR window opens. Interaction Check DUR Note: The display of allergy interaction is based on the display levels set for the system, a specific user, or both. Highlight the listed medication to view the summary of the existing conflict. NextGen® Enterprise lists a summary of effect and level of risk. Select OK to close the Interaction Check window. Levels of Pediatric Precaution

The medication interaction process displays pediatric precautions according to the display levels set for the system and a specific user. There are three levels of the Pediatric Precaution: Level 1 - Contraindications. Contraindicated for use in Pediatric patients. Level 2 - Severe Precautions. Precaution is necessary for use with Pediatric patients. Level 3 - Management or Monitoring Precautions. No studies have been done, but warnings exist about use in Pediatric patients. Overview of Inactive Medication Ingredient Interaction

Inactive ingredients of a new medication prescribed to a patient can have a negative interaction with the patient's allergies. If such interactions occur, you can see alerts in the Drug Interaction window. The alerts display the inactive ingredients that can cause the allergy. You must acknowledge the alerts in the Drug Interaction window, and specify the reason for overriding the alerts. Note: The inactive medication ingredient interaction check happens only when the Inactive Medication Ingredient Alert option in System Administrator is True.
