Configure Formulary Search Preferences
In NextGen® Enterprise EHR, from the Tools menu, select Preferences. By default, the General tab of the Preferences window opens. Select the Formulary tab. Formulary tab In the General section, specify whether you want to use formulary search as the default medication search. In the View Options section, specify whether you want to view formulary note, formulary status, or both. In the Drug Information section, specify whether you want to view one or more of the following medication details: Chemical name Only drug name Over-the-counter medications Medications that are only on formulary In the Formulary Status section, specify whether you want to view formulary status in a text format, an image format, or both formats. Specify whether you want to use the Real-Time Prescription Benefit feature in the Medications module. Access Formulary Search
In the Medications module, you can use the Medication Search window to perform a formulary search. Do one of the following: Select Medication Search . Select Prescribe New. Use Formulary Search
Do one of the following: Select Medication Search. Select Prescribe New. The Medication Search window opens. Medication Search In the Formulary field, select the formulary provider. In the Find field, enter a full or partial medication name, and then select the appropriate name from the list of matches. Medication Search window The search results display the following: OTC (Over the Counter) next to the target medication. Generic next to the parent medication when known. No value appears when a brand exists for the medication. From the list of medications in the search results, select the applicable medication dosage. Any related Formulary Note, Copay, and Coverage information appear. Any available formulary alternatives that are at a higher formulary status than the selected dosage appear in the list. Formulary Search
NextGen® Enterprise EHR allows you to search for and prescribe medications using the formulary or non-formulary search. You can select to use the medication search window or the formulary search window. To use the formulary search window, you must have either Surescripts or InfoScan services enabled. Formulary Search Requirements
The formulary search automatically replaces the regular medication search engine at run time. If you use the InfoScan formularies, in File Maintenance, you must set up a default formulary provider with the appropriate formulary code and then set up a formulary for each available payer. Note: If you do not set up a formulary for each payer in File Maintenance, you should consider setting up a default formulary provider used for any payer that does not have a matching formulary configured. You must set up each payer accepted by your medical practice with the appropriate formulary. To use the formulary search, the following conditions must be met: Formulary update (Surescripts and InfoScan) is applied to the NextGen database Note: The medication and formulary data must be updated on a regular, usually monthly, basis. Open the Medication Search window. From the View menu, select Display Options. The Medication Search - Display Options window opens.
