Open the SIG Builder. In the Sig list, select a SIG from any one of the following categories: Most Used (if available) The Most Used Sig category is assigned by the number of times providers select that sig for the medication. Build Custom SIG

You can manually build an SIG for a medication. From the Medication module, open SIG Builder. Sig Builder In Admin, select a method of administration from the list. In Quantity, select the number of units from the list or enter a number. To select a quantity range, do the following. Select the Quantity as Range check box. The new list appears besides Quantity. In the list, select or enter the upper or lower range of the required quantity. In Unit of Measure, select a unit of measure from the list. In Route, select the preferred route from the list. Note: By default, the Show Route check box is selected. To hide Route, clear the Show Route check box. In Interval, enter or select the time interval between medication doses from the list. To select an interval range, do the following. Select the Interval as Range check box. The new list appears besides Interval. In the list, select or enter the upper range of the required interval. Open the SIG Builder

Enter all required medication information. Perform any one of the following: Hover over or select the Add Sig link. Select the automatically populated SIG to change it. Hover over or select the Edit Sig link. The availability of an automatically populated SIG in the advanced SIG builder depends on the information provided by the third party, First Databank. SIG Builder

You must add a SIG (dosage instructions) before prescribing a medication to a patient. The SIG builder enables you to select a SIG from a list of existing SIG, build a custom SIG for a medication, or edit the existing SIG. Select a SIG

After you enter the required medication information, you must select a SIG. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR and access the Medications module. Select a medication. Enter all required medication information. Select or build a SIG. The selected SIG is automatically assigned to the medication. If the SIG contains more characters than the display allows, the text is truncated. If you hover the cursor over the truncated text, a tooltip displays the complete SIG. If the SIG exceeds the 140-character maximum for electronic prescriptions, an alert appears next to the SIG text. Select a SIG You can change the quantity and the interval of the medication by either typing the values or using the arrows to select the appropriate values. eRx Validation

A prescription cannot be submitted electronically if the selected medication exceeds one of the following National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) SCRIPT Standard limits: The patient's first name or last name has more than 70 characters. The patient's street address or prescriber's street address has more than 40 characters. The SIG, including the as needed reason, has more than 1000 characters. The Non-Clinical Notes to Pharmacy (comments) has more than 210 characters. A prescription cannot be submitted electronically if the selected medication does not contain any of the following for ePrescribing: SIG Code Unit code Numeric quantity value When the NCPDP SCRIPT Standards are not met and you try to submit a prescription electronically, eRx Validation error message appears. On the error message, you can either select Fax to send the prescription or select Close and Fix to resolve the errors before sending the prescription.
