A provider enrolled with Surescripts and eligible to ePrescribe patient medications may need a supervising physician. The Additional Prescription Detail tab of the Medications module provides a list of supervising physicians. To enable the Supervising Physician list, you must select the Supervising Physician Required check box on the ePrescribing tab of the Providers master file in File Maintenance. The Supervising Physician list enables you to select the default supervising physician, rendering provider, or any other provider who does not require a supervisor. The following conditions apply when selecting a supervising physician. Condition Selection Prescribing physician of the active medication does not require supervision. The Supervising Physician list is disabled and displays <Not Set>. Prescribing physician of the active medication requires supervision and the default physician is selected in File Maintenance. Assign eRx Workgroups and Category to a Provider
After creating the work group and task category, you must assign them to the provider. In File Maintenance, from Master Files > System, select Providers. The Providers List window opens. Double-click a provider. The Modify Provider Information window opens. Select the ePrescribing tab. For each Task Type in the Workgroup section, select the workgroup that receives the new workflow task and select the category that the task is placed in for the selected provider. eRx Refills Select OK to save the changes and exit the Modify Provider Information window. Select a Supervising Physician
If a provider who requires supervision attempts to submit a patient prescription electronically and the supervising physician is not selected or is an invalid selection, an error message appears. Select Close and Fix and select the appropriate supervising physician or fax the prescription. Note: When renewing and ePrescribing multiple medications, if a medication needs supervision and has a default supervising physician selected in File Maintenance, the default supervising physician is assigned during send. With a patient in context and a medication selected, do one of the following: Select the Additional Prescription Detail link. Select the Additional Prescription Detail tab. Update Provider Enrollment
You can update a provider's enrollment with retail or mail-order networks. An update might be necessary if information was entered incorrectly or if some of the information has changed. In File Maintenance, from Master Files > System, select Providers. The Providers List window opens. Double-click a provider. The Modify Provider Information window opens. On the Modify Provider Information window, select the ePrescribing tab. In the Networks section, select open menu > Retail or Mail-Order > Update. The eRx Message Submission window opens. Select OK. Configure a Provider for Manual Supervisor Sign-off
You can configure a provider who does not always need a supervisor sign-off on the encounters. Open the Practice Configuration template. In Finalize Visit Settings panel, click the blank field below the Submit to Supervisor Settings grid. The Providers Requiring Supervisors picklist opens. Note: The picklist shows a list of providers that have the Supervisor Required setting in the provider master file in the File Maintenance. Submit to Supervisor Settings grid in the Finalize Visit Settings panel Select a provider, and click OK. Click Add. The Send to Supervising Physician button appears on the Finalize Visit template.
