Best Practices for Setting Up Orders Module Order Preferences for DM Images

Practice A Current Order Process: Practice A uses the Orders module to process the majority of their Lab and Radiology orders. Their most frequently processed orders are Radiology orders and their referrals are handled using NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine.

Best Practice Goal: Practice A wants to display the most frequently used order types for more efficient selection when choosing an order to link to a scanned DM image or for sign off. By selecting the orders preferences, the practice ensures the system updates the order status at the appropriate points in the order lifecycle, reducing manual entry and enhancing consistency.

Best Practice Pre-Set up Strategy: Most of Practice A’s Lab and Radiology orders are processed in the Orders Module. However, since Radiology orders are the majority of orders, Practice A determines that Radiology orders should be the default view when users access orders in NextGen® Document Management or PAQ. To close the loop on referral orders, Practice A determines that referrals should be marked as Completed in when a scanned report from the referral physician is reviewed by the ordering provider. For any Lab and Radiology orders (that are not processed to the Order module), Practice A decides that these order types should have a NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine order status of Result Received when a scanned report is received.
