Create a Radiology Order Workflow

This procedure provides an overview of the basic steps to create a radiology order. When you create an order, you must complete all required fields that have been set up as Mandatory Data Points in File Maintenance Practice Preferences. These required fields display in red text. If you do not fill in a required field, when you try to save your information, a message appears, prompting you to complete the field. For more information on setting up Mandatory Data Point fields in File Maintenance Practice Preferences, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the latest Orders Module Setup Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Orders module. Select the Orders Summary tab. On the Top toolbar, select New > Lab Order. If an encounter with today's date exists, the Create New Lab Order window opens. Test orders must be associated with an encounter. When an order is created, the system looks for an encounter for today's date to attach the order to. If you create a lab or radiology order using the New option in the Orders Summary tab, and an encounter with today's date exists, the order is created. If a current date encounter does not exist, you are prompted to either create a patient encounter for today, use the selected encounter, or select a different encounter. If you choose to use a selected encounter, you can do the following If the selected encounter is not from today, you can use the current active encounter, or create an encounter. If the selected encounter is locked, you are required to either cancel the order or create an encounter. Test orders associated with locked encounters can only be opened for viewing. If the selected encounter is locked and you try to delete an associated test order, a message appears, stating that you cannot delete the order. If the selected enco

Map Patient Diagnoses to Tests

You can search for and select the patient's diagnoses to map to laboratory and radiology tests for the selected encounter. You can also remove the patient's diagnoses, if needed. Open NextGen® Mobile. Open the Patient Chart view for your patient. Select Today's Visit. Orders Section in Today's Visit Note: You must select an unlocked encounter or you can create an encounter. In NextGen® Mobile, the Orders section is available for NextGen® Enterprise EHR version 6.0 and later. Select + Add next to Orders. The + Add option is not available on locked encounters and for non-NextGen® Enterprise users. The Select Order Type view opens displaying the Laboratory and Radiology order types. Select an order type. Note: After upgrading, when you select an order type for the first-time, the Ambient Orders view opens with all the performing entities selected by default. Create Encounters

You can create an encounter using the default current date or you can select an earlier date. You cannot create an encounter with a future date. Open NextGen® Mobile. On the menu bar, select Schedule. The Schedules window opens. Select the patient. The Patient Chart window opens. Select the Encounter field. The Patient Encounters window opens. To select a different date for the encounter, do the following: Select the Create Encounter field. The date selection view appears. Select the desired date. Select Done. The Patient Encounters window displays the selected date. To create an encounter, select Create Encounter. The Patient Chart window opens with the current date in the Encounter Date field.
