Use Diagnostic Tests Different from those Packaged with the System

If you want to use diagnostic tests that are different from those packaged with the system, there is a recommended procedure.
  1. Hide the original diagnostic test record on the test ordering template:
    1. Highlight the row in the grid with the test to be updated.
    2. Click Update.
      The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Tests Setup template opens and displays details for the test in the edit fields above the grid.
    3. Select the Hide on test ordering popup check box.
    4. Click Update.
      The grid refreshes to display the row for the test with the updated details. The edit fields are cleared.
  2. Add the new diagnostic test record with modifications:
    1. Click Add.
      The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Tests Setup template opens and displays details for the test in the edit fields above the grid.
    2. Enter a value for Billing/Test code.
      This test code must be listed in the NextGen Compendium if this test is to be sent to the Order module.
    3. Enter a value for Test type by clicking the field and select from the Procedures search window or type free text.
      This is the description that displays on the Order Tests – OPH template.
    4. Select a category by clicking the Category field and selecting a category from the DB picklist.

      The Edit field is read-only and automatically fills with the value U when you add a new test to the data set.

    5. Select a Billing type: Bilateral, Unilateral, or Not billable
    6. To select the vendor and vendor ID, click the Vendor field and select a value from the DB picklist.
      The Vendor field displays the selected vendor name, and the ID field automatically displays the ID code associated with the vendor. A vendor and vendor ID is required when you select the Send to module check box.
    7. Select other options for the test:
      • Send to module
      • Computerized provider order entry
      • Use TC and 26 modifiers
      • Hide on test ordering popup
    8. Click Add.
      The grid refreshes to display a new row for the modified test with the updated details.
  3. Click Close.
