Place an Order for Diagnostic Studies

You can place a diagnostic study order with Bypass Order Module Processing enabled.

You can place a diagnostic study order from the Diagnostic Studies template.
  1. Open the Diagnostic Studies template.

    The patient’s insurance details and policy number appear if they are entered into the application. If a preferred vendor are configured in the File Maintenance application, the name appears. The Today’s Assessments grid displays a list of diagnoses selected in the Assessments tab.
  2. To add or change a diagnosis in the Today’s Assessments grid, select Add or Edit.
    The Add or Update Assessment template opens.
  3. To change the current working assessment, in the Today's Assessments grid, select the diagnosis being addressed for this encounter.
    The selected diagnosis appears in the Selected Dx field.
  4. To add or change the vendor for the order, select the Vendor field on the template and select the vendor.
    If you select Labcorp or Quest and your practice has configured the Patient Service Center (PSC) hold setting for these vendors on the Practice Configuration template, the application selects the Quest/Labcorp PSC Hold check box.
  5. To change the billing type, select the Billing Type field, and select an option.
    The Billing Type field is filled based on the selected vendor. The default billing type is Third Party; however, if the patient's insurance is not attached to the encounter, the default is Patient.
  6. To specify the test urgency, select the order priority.
  7. In the Orders panel, select the link to select the diagnostic study and the associated CPT® code.
    The selected diagnostic study and code appear in the Diagnostic study fields.
  8. Enter additional details for the study including the side, site, modifiers, position, orientation, timeframe, appointment location and phone number, and indicate if authorization is required.
  9. To associate multiple diagnoses with orders for diagnostic studies, select the Associate Diagnoses link to open the Associate Diagnoses template.
    You can add additional diagnoses to the order before you place the order or after you place the order but before the order is processed. After the order is processed, you cannot add or change its associated diagnoses.
  10. To place the order in the Orders module without sending it to the interface, select the Save to Module but Don't Send to Interface queue check box.
  11. Select Place Order.
    The order appears in the Order Hold grid, and the Select Task Recipients template opens.
  12. Enter the associated tasks and recipients for the order, and select OK.
    The order appears in the Diagnostic Studies Ordered This Visit grid with the status of ordered.
  13. If required, select a different vendor or map the diagnostic studies in File Maintenance.
  14. Select Save & Close.
