Document the Epistaxis Procedure

An epistaxis procedure is the control of anterior nosebleed simple or complex, and/or posterior nosebleed initial or subsequent. When you document an epistaxis procedure, the application can include the appropriate CPT codes for billing based on the procedure and the usage of scope.

  1. Access the Epistaxis/Turbinate Reduction template.
  2. In the Pre-Procedure Care section, select the pre-procedure actions that you have completed.
  3. In the Type of Procedure section, select an anterior and/or a posterior procedure you have performed, and then select the location of the bleed from the resulting list.

  4. Click the Status field and then select a status.
  5. Click the Location of the bleed field and then select a location.
  6. Select a bleeding Side such as RT for right; LT for left; and BIL for bilateral, and then select a treatment technique Cautery, Simply packing, or Anterior/posterior packing.
  7. In the Type of scope used section, select the type of scopes used.
  8. Select a Usage of the scope to include a correct CPT code for billing.
  9. Select Insignificant or Significant to indicate the amount of blood loss.
  10. Click the Anesthetic/Medications field and select an anesthetic or medication from the list, and then click Dosage to select a dosage.
  11. Click Submit to Superbill and then click Save & Close.
