Configuration of Default Visit Specialty

The Default Visit Specialty panel on the Framework Content system template is one of three configurable options that is used to determine the default visit specialty. Default Visit Specialty Each rendering provider that you set up in File Maintenance appears in the Default Visit Specialty grid. The specialty (Specialty Code 1) mapped to the rendering provider in File Maintenance is the default specialty for the provider on the application level. The mapped specialty appears in the Default Visit Specialty grid on the Framework Content system template alongside the rendering provider name. Note: Any changes made to the provider's specialty on the Framework Content system template impact the default visit specialty for the provider in runtime. To update the provider's default visit specialty at the application level, update the Specialty Code 1 field for the provider on File Maintenance. Update the Default Specialty for Rendering Providers

You can modify the default specialty for a rendering provider. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select File > System \ Practice Template. The Select Template window opens. Select Template window Select the System tab. Under Show, select All. A list of templates appear. Double-click Framework Content. The Framework Content template opens. In the Default Visit Specialty template, do the following: To view the default visit specialties mapped to the rendering provider, select the filter by provider field. To view the default visit specialties mapped to all the rendering providers at the practice level, use the filter by practice field. You can clear the filters by selecting the top blank row on the resulting list. Select the row. The practice, location, and default visit specialty details appear. Select the Practice, Location, and Default Visit Specialty fields to make selections for each field. To remove the default visit specialty for a provider, select the Default Visit Specialty field to

Set Default Specialties for Patients

The rendering provider can select a specialty on the initial patient encounter to set it as the default visit specialty for the patient. The application automatically fills the provider's selection in the Specialty field for future encounters with the same patient. The provider can reset the default visit specialty by selecting another specialty for the same patient. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Select a patient. Open the Intake template from the Templates module. If a specialty is mapped to the rendering provider on the Framework Content system template, the default visit specialty appears in the Specialty field. To select a different specialty for the patient, select the Specialty field. The selected specialty becomes the default for the rendering provider's future encounters with the patient. Default Visit Specialties

You can set the default visit specialty for the rendering provider. You can configure the Default Visit Specialty panel on the Framework Content system template. When the rendering provider selects a default visit specialty for a patient's encounter, the same visit specialty copies forward to the next encounter. NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine includes a number of specialty-specific templates that open with a pre-defined Specialty at runtime. For example, if you select the Home Page - Allergy template from the Templates module, the application automatically displays Allergy and Immunology in the Specialty field. You can configure the same in the Framework Template Set section of the Practice Configuration practice template. Configure the Default Visit Specialty Mapping

You can map the providers to a default specialty. You can also create multiple mappings based on the practice and location. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Framework Content system template. Click the Default Visit Specialty panel. In the grid, select a row. The provider, practice, location, and default visit specialty fill the fields above the grid. Select the Practice field. Select the Location field. Select the Default Visit Specialty field. To save the selected options, click Update. To view the default visit specialties mapped to all the rendering providers at the practice, click the filter by practice field. To view the default visit specialties mapped to the rendering provider, click the filter by provider field. Save and close the template. Configuration of Custom Visit Type

You can configure a new visit type required by a practice, and manage these custom visit types using the Visit Type Configuration window. To add a new visit type, you must map an existing visit type and the associated Evaluation and Management billing code with the new visit type. Based on your practice preference, you can map a specialty and the required templates to display on run-time with the configured visit type using the Framework Content system template. The selected specialty and the run-time visit type details are displayed on the generated documents.
