Configuration of Default Visit Specialty
The Default Visit Specialty panel on the Framework Content system template is one of three configurable options that is used to determine the default visit specialty.
Each rendering provider that you set up in File Maintenance appears in the Default Visit Specialty grid. The specialty (Specialty Code 1) mapped to the rendering provider in File Maintenance is the default specialty for the provider on the application level. The mapped specialty appears in the Default Visit Specialty grid on the Framework Content system template alongside the rendering provider name.
- Based on provider, practice, and location in the Default Visit Specialty panel of the Framework Content system template.
- Based on the specialty assigned to the specific template opened, for example, the Home Page - OPH template sets the specialty to Ophthalmology.
- Based on the practice-wide setting on the Practice Configuration template, in the Framework Template Set section.
The first criteria met determines the visit specialty on the first encounter. The specialty-specific template setting will only be utilized if there is no specialty configured for the provider in the Framework Content template; the practice-wide setting on the Practice Configuration template only runs if the template does not have a default specialty.
