Activate Auto-calculation Parity Option

You can activate the Parity auto-calculation activated setting iin the Practice Configuration practice template. This setting enables you to select whether to auto-calculate parity at the point of care when pregnancy outcomes are entered. You can select the check box to automatically calculate the parity when documenting the pregnancy outcome. When this option is activated all Parity Detail fields become read-only. The parity data must match the Pregnancy Outcome entries in the Pregnancy Outcomes grid. The auto-calculation function remains incomplete until the data is synchronized. If you do not select this option you have to manually update the parity details. When a user activates this functionality, it creates a log in the OB Audit Log practice template. From the File menu, select System \ Practice Template to open the Select Template picklist. On the Practice tab, select Practice Configuration and select OK. Auto-calculation for Parity Values

The auto-calculation of parity enables you to make corrections to a patient’s parity if they are incorrect. In the Pregnancy History grid, without adding the details of each associated pregnancy, you can quickly document a patient’s current parity values. You can also view all patients within the practice that have disparate parity detail information. The following is auto-calculated in the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine system: Gravidity is the sum of full term, abortion, and ectopic pregnancies and are automatically calculated. A current pregnancy if any is calculated in this count. Parity is calculated in TPAL format (T for total number of full term births; P for total number of preterm births; A for total number of abortions; and L for total number of living children). The system also further breaks down A to auto-calculate total number of spontaneous abortions, induced abortions, and ectopic pregnancies. Review Incorrect Parity Data in the Patient Safety Report Practice Template

You can view all patients within the practice whose current parity details are different than the parity calculated by the entries in the Pregnancy history grid. A Parity Detail Disparity option is added in the Patient Safety Reports practice template to display the list of patients with incorrect parity details. You can modify the patient charts to display the correct parity details and the pregnancy outcome data. To correct the parity details, access the patient’s chart to update the entry on the OBGYN Synopsis or Pregnancy Outcomes template. This functionality helps you to view all patients within the practice that have disparate Parity Detail and generate a report so that the individual patient charts can be modified to display the correct Parity Detail and Pregnancy Outcome data. Manually Calculate for Multiple Births

The multiple births must be manually entered by the practice in the Pregnancy Outcomes template. For twins born through NSVD, it is calculated as 1 NSVD. The same applies for triplets, quads and so on if all delivered by 1 NSVD. For twins both born by C-section, it is calculated as 1 C-section. The same applies for triplets, quads and so on if all delivered by 1 C-section. For twins, 1 born by NSVD and 1 by C-section is calculated as 1 NSVD and 1 C-section. The same applies for triplets, quads and so on if one or some are delivered by 1 NSVD and 1 C-section. In cases of multiple gestation pregnancies with different outcomes for the embryos fetus(es), the parity is automatically calculated based on the most advanced fetal outcome. Abortions or ectopic pregnancies that are part of a multiple gestation pregnancy do not contribute to parity if there is also a potentially viable delivery. Document the OBGYN Synopsis Template

The OBGYN link is available for female patients above the age of eight years. On the OBGYN Synopsis template, you can document information on the patient's menopause status, hysterectomy details, gynecological and pregnancy history, abnormal Pap, and contraception information. The configuration in the Parity detail auto calculation section applies only to the Obstetrics specialty. Obstetrics section The Parity detail auto calculation section is used to activate the auto-calculation of parity at the point of care when the pregnancy outcomes are entered. When the parity auto-calculations feature is turned off, the text "Parity auto-calculations not activated" appears. When you activate the Parity auto-calculate feature, the system adds a log in the OB Audit Log practice template. On the OB Audit Log practice template, you need to select the Parity detail auto calculation log type and the date range to view the items that have discrepancies in the parity numbers when compared to the pregnancy history grid entries. If the parity auto-calculation feature is turned on, the green text Auto-calculation appears on the Pregnancy Outcomes and OBGYN Synopsis templates.
