Complete the Patient's Needs and Strengths Assessment

You can document the needs and strengths of adult and child patients on the ANSA and CANS assessment templates.

1. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR, and then in Patient History, select Open Templates.
   The Select Template window opens.
2. On the Medical Records tab, select All.
3. Select one of the following templates:
   • Adult Needs & Strengths Assessment (BH): to open the assessment template for adults.
   • CANS, birth to 5 (BH): to open the assessment template for children up to the age of five.
   • CANS 5-17 (BH): to open the assessment template for children between the ages of 5 and 17.
4. Select OK.
   The selected assessment template opens.

   Note: As the CANS and ANSA templates included in the NextGen® Behavioral Health Suite are state-specific, an application message is displayed while opening the templates.

   

5. Select the program, specialty, and visit type.
6. Select the reason for the assessment.
7. Select whether the individual is having Medicaid.

   If Yes, enter the Medicaid RID number.

8. Select the scores for the patient in each panel.
   Note: If the individual is less than 18 years of age, select the scores for the care giver in each panel.
9. Select Generate Document.
   The completed assessment is saved to the ANSA/CANS grid and the document is generated.

   Note: An application message appears if information in any of the panels is missing.
