Cost Estimation for an Appointment

You can estimate the patient cost for an appointment with any status such as Expected, Kept, Cancelled, No Show, and Pending. You can also do cost estimation for an appointment with event SIM codes or an appointment with an encounter.

You can initiate cost estimation from the following:
  • The Appointment Lookup window. You can open the Appointment Lookup window by selecting Appointments on the toolbar or selecting Tasks > Lookup > Appointments. Using the search criteria, you can find the appointment list of a specific person or patient. You can right-click the desired appointment and select Estimate Patient Cost.
  • The appointment book. To open an appointment from the appointment book, you can select ApptBook on the toolbar or select Tasks > Appt Book. In the appointment book that opens, you can right-click the specific appointment and select Estimate Patient Cost.
By default, the following details are displayed on the Estimate Patient Cost window.
  • Demographic information of the patient and guarantor.
  • Appointment or event date.
  • Encounter number with the date if the appointment is linked to an encounter.
  • All active and unhidden payers.
  • Rendering provider and service location selected for the appointment or event.
  • SIM codes that are attached to the event or encounter, if any.
The following enhancements have been made for the cost estimation at the appointment level.
  • When you open the Estimate Patient Cost window from Appointment Book or Appointment Lookup, the cost is estimated at the insurance linked to the appointment. You can view all the insurances attached to the appointment.

  • When you open the Estimate Patient Cost window from Appointment Book or Appointment Lookup and do not attach any insurance to the appointment, no insurance appears in the Estimate Patient Cost window and the Self Pay check box is selected by default.

  • In the NextGen® Enterprise PM Practice Preferences, the Appointment Insurance field has been added in the Required on link appt section on the Appt Scheduling tab.
  • The Self Pay check box has been added in the Appointment Insurance section in the Add Appointment window to add and view insurances attached to the appointment.
