Encounters in Bad Debt Status

The encounter status changes from Billed to Bad Debt, indicated by a red dollar sign icon. You can view this icon on the Encounters Detail and Acct Summary tabs in the guarantor’s Account Profile. You can also view it on the Financial and Encounters tabs in Patient Chart.

An Agency Bad Debt Write Off note is automatically added to the encounter, indicated by a push pin icon. You can view this icon on the Notes sub-tab of Patient Chart > Encounters tab.

Two system-generated transactions move the encounter balance from the Regular A/R to the Bad Debt A/R.

• Bad Debt Credit: Removes the balance from the Regular A/R
• Bad Debt Debit: Adds the balance into the Bad Debt A/R

You can view the transactions on the Transactions sub-tab on Patient Chart > Encounters tab. You can view the movement of the encounter balance from the Self column to the Bad Debt column on the Financial tab in the Patient Chart.
