Statement Counters

Statement counters automatically record the number of statements that have been generated for every guarantor. In NextGen® Enterprise PM, statement counts are tracked at the following levels: Account-Level Encounter-Level Account-Level Statement Counter The account level statement counter displays the number of statements that have been generated for the account. Omit In Progress Encounters from Statements

In Progress encounters, by default, appear on statements. If an In Progress encounter is excluded from them, it does not appear on any statements until the encounter status converts to an Unbilled status. You can omit encounters with In Progress status from Statements in the Statements Practice Preferences, select the Exclude In Progress encounters from statements check box. Change Line Item Discounts to Encounter Discounts

When you change from a line item-level discount to an encounter-level discount, the previous discount amounts are cleared out in both the header and on the line items. To change line item-level charge discounts to encounter-level discounts, do the following: Open the Charge Posting window for the desired patient and encounter. Select the Discounts button on the charge posting toolbar. The Discounts window opens. Select Encounter in the Discount Level section. Enter the encounter level discount percentage or amount. The Discount Information grid displays the discounted amount for the selected line items in the Discount Amount column. Select OK. The new discounts are processed according to the status of the encounter. In Progress encounters: The application deletes the original discount adjustments, applies new discounts, and then posts the transaction batch. Tax charges are recalculated. Setting the Default Status of New Encounters to In Progress

Depending on your kind of practice, you might prefer that all new encounters are created with the In Progress status set by default instead of users manually setting the status. Then, whenever a user creates an encounter, the In Progress check box will be automatically selected on the Create Encounter window. Users cannot clear the In Progress check box unless they change the selection in the Encounter Types field to only Billable. Some encounters, such as point-of-sale, do not require an In Progress status. By changing the encounter type to Billable, the front office can then enter charges for the encounter. Because point-of-sale encounters are NextGen® Enterprise PM-only, setting the encounter type to Billable prevents the point-of-sale encounter from displaying in the NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Components of Encounter Information

The following table describes the fields that appear in the Encounter Information section when you select an encounter from the Encounters section: Field Description Encounter Nbr Displays the system-assigned encounter number. Encounter Date Displays the Billable Date entered for the encounter on the Encounter Maintenance window. Encounter Status Displays the current status of the encounter. An encounter can have any of the following status: Unbilled Billed Rebill In Progress Bad Debt History First Bill Date Displays the date when the encounter first went through the billing process in NextGen® Enterprise PM. Occurrence Codes

The value in the Onset Date field on the Encounter Maintenance window is the default value for the first occurrence code field, 31a. The value in the Occurrence Code field in the Revenue Code master file is the default value for the second occurrence code field, 32a on the UB / Occurrences Codes tab of the Encounter Maintenance window.
