Cost Estimation for an Encounter

You can estimate the patient cost for an encounter with any status such as Bad Debt, Billed, History, In Progress, Rebill, or Unbilled. Encounters with or without SIM codes are considered for cost estimation.

• If you want to open the Estimate Patient Cost window from the Encounter Lookup window, do the following:
  • To open the Encounter Lookup window, you can select Encounter on the toolbar or select Tasks > Lookup > Encounters from the menu.
  • You can find the specific encounter using the search criteria. You can then right-click the encounter and select Estimate Patient Cost from the menu.
  

• If you want to open the Estimate Patient Cost window from the Encounters tab on the Patient Chart window, do the following:
  • You can select Chart on the toolbar to open the Patient Chart window.
  • On the People Lookup window that opens, find and select the patient.
  • On the Encounters tab of the chart, you can right-click an encounter number from the list and select Estimate Patient Cost from the menu.
    

By default, the following details are displayed on the Estimate Patient Cost window.

• Demographic information of the patient and guarantor.
• Encounter number and encounter date.
• Appointment or event date if the encounter was created from an appointment.
• Payers are displayed based on how the Estimate Patient Cost window was opened.
• The rendering providers and locations are recorded in the encounter.
• SIM codes for the services attached to the encounter, if any.
• Diagnosis codes attached to the encounter, if any.
