    The Practice Preferences window opens.
  5. From the Preference List on the left, select Sliding Fee.
  6. Use the following table to select the desired sliding fee options for the practice.
  7. To save changes and close the window, select OK.
    • Disable sliding fee adjustments for encounters that have insurance attached: Select this check box to disable the ability for users to perform a demand sliding fee adjustment on encounters with a remaining patient balance after insurance has paid.
    • Disable sliding fee adjustments for encounters that have a zero balance: Select this check box to disable sliding fee adjustments on encounters that already have a balance of $0.00.
    • Allow family size and income re-verification override: This setting determines whether Family Size and Income must be re-verified and updated before sliding fee adjustments can be applied to charges where the service date is past the re-verification date in the patient's family information.

If this check box is not selected, users must re-verify and update family information before sliding fee adjustments can be applied.

If this check box is selected, the following prompt displays during charge posting, therefore allowing users to override the re-verification and apply sliding fee adjustments without updating family information:

This charge has a date of service that is past the re-verification date for family size and income. Would you still like to apply the sliding fee adjustment? Yes/No

    • Display Percent of Poverty: Select this check box to display Percent of Poverty and Poverty Category in guarantor accounts and patient charts as defined in the Patient Responsibility master file.
    • If amount due is less than minimum value or flat rate, do not slide: Select this check box to prevent positive sliding fee adjustments that increase the amount due up to the defined minimum value/flat rate. This would occur in cases where the balance is less than the minimum value/flat rate.
    • Sliding Fee Alerts: Select information to be included in the Sliding Fee system alert that displays when a sliding fee patient is accessed. This is used to customize what users see when the alert displays.
      • Schedule Name
      • Percent of Discount
      • Family Size
      • Family Income
      • Minimum Value
