Master List	Description
Case Category	Case Categories are associated with specific cases and are used on Case templates in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. This item can be set as private to restrict user access. Case types in the Case Type master file can consist of these case categories. For example, the Private case type can have case categories such as: Mobile Services, 24 Hour Nurse Triage, Urgent Care, Consulting, CMCA, and None.
Case Contact Role	Types of people that are contacted regarding or are involved in a patient's case. Examples are attorney, case manager, and insurance adjuster. This master list is used when you modify the case contacts in NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM. This item can be set as private to restrict user access.
Case Markets	Case markets are another method used to classify cases for NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Case markets can be set as private to restrict user access. Restricted case markets are set in the System Administrator application.

Restricting User Access at the Case Level

You can restrict security at the case level according to Diagnosis Category, Employer, Location, Market, Payer, Case Type, and Case Category. The kinds of items you can restrict come from the following areas: Diagnosis category master file Employer master file Location master file Case Market master list Payer master file Case Type master list Case Category master list If a case contains any of the selected items that are marked for restriction, the entire case becomes unavailable for viewing by users of the group. For example, a list of restricted locations can be maintained for each group. If it is documented that a patient's case is associated with "Community Medical Center" and Community Medical Center is set as restricted in the System Administrator, then the case is marked as private. Enterprise Case

When you set the Enterprise case management option in Enterprise Preferences, each patient case becomes available to all practices within the same enterprise. Users in any practice in the enterprise can view and modify the case information and attach encounters from the current practice, regardless of the practice in which the case originates. All cases are automatically assigned a unique enterprise-wide sequential Case Number. Note: You are able to attach only encounters within the practice you are currently logged on to. The option also affects: The way cases are automatically numbered. The application automatically assigns a unique case number to each new case created within a practice. Case Management Setup

Setting up Case Management involves the following: Grant the necessary user rights and permissions in System Administrator. Enable Case Management in File Maintenance. Set alerts. Add case information to: Fee tickets Form and label templates from the data repository Requires a case on an encounter. Activate claim edits. Set up the Case Type Master. File in the File Maintenance. Set up and populate the Case Category, Case Contact Role, and Case Market in Master Lists in File Maintenance. Restrict user access to case management in System Administrator. If you use template editor, create the appropriate Case Management Templates in Template Editor. Create Master Lists for Case Management

In File Maintenance window, select Master Lists. The Master Lists List window opens. In the Master List field, select a master list. The list below updates to display the contents of the selected master list. If the contents of the master list is lengthy, you can adjust which items display by selecting one or more of the following check boxes: Check Box Description Include Hidden Items Select to display items that are set to be hidden in the master list. OR Clear the check box to remove the hidden items from the list. Include PM Items Select to display items that are only available to NextGen® Enterprise PM. OR Clear the check box to remove NextGen® Enterprise PM items from the list. Include EHR Items Select to display items that are only available to NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Case Privacy

There is a security control setup at the Case level. Restriction of security rights can be set for: Diagnosis Category Employer Location Market Payer Case Type Case Category. For example, a list of restricted employers can be maintained for each group or role in the system. If it is documented that a patient’s case is associated with “NextGen” and NextGen Healthcare is marked as restricted, then the case is marked as private. Cases marked as private are suppressed if the case data has been designated as restricted for the specific user group. Private Cases All of the contents of an Encounter associated with a private case are not displayed in the Encounter History tab. Any row data within the NextGen® Enterprise modules is hidden if the case is marked as private and the user is restricted. Managing Patient Cases in NextGen® Enterprise EHR

The Case Management functionality enables users of both NextGen® Enterprise EHR and NextGen® Enterprise PM applications to group patient encounters based upon common data into cases. Cases may include workers' compensation, occupational health (non-injury), ambulatory care, group health PT as well as other encounter details. This enables users to submit only the medical-record data of each patient that is required to meet insurance and legal obligations.
