Attach a Formulary to a Payer

You can search for formularies by Plan ID or organization name and attach a formulary to a payer. You cannot hide formularies, but once they are attached to a payer they are considered "in use". A formulary can also be considered "in use" even if it is not attached to a payer. The "in use" formularies display as list items that NextGen® Enterprise EHR users can select from, for example, in the Medication Module. Because the list of formularies is long, you may not want to use all of them, such as state-specific ones. If you make certain formularies in use, the list that users can choose from becomes shorter because it excludes non-relevant formularies.

  1. Select the Payer Defaults - 2 tab.
  2. In the Formulary Provider field, select .
The Formulary Provider Search window appears.

  3. To search for a formulary provider, follow the steps below:
    1. In the Search Method section, select one of the following search methods: Code or Description.
    2. Enable the Search for keyphrase anywhere in the item check box if you want to see codes that contain a specific word or phrase anywhere in the description.
    3. In the Type the first letter(s) of the item you want to locate field, enter what you want to search for. The matching results list appears.
    4. If you want to view only the formularies that are attached to payers, select In use only.
  4. To see the formulary details, right-click a formulary in the results, then select Open.
    The Formulary Providers window appears.

  5. Select one of the following options:
    • To mark a formulary as In use and not attach it to a payer, enable the In use check box.
    • To remove the formulary from all payers, clear the In Use check box.

A Formulary Provider can be marked as not in use only if it is not attached to any payers.

  6. From the Formulary Providers window, select OK to return to the Formulary Provider Search window.
  7. To attach the formulary to the payer, select the formulary in the search results and then select OK.
The formulary is now In use and displays in the Formulary Provider field on the Payer Defaults - 2 tab of the Payer Information window.
