Patient Pay Practice Preferences

The Patient Pay Practice Preferences provides options related to patient payments that are processed electronically in NextGen® Enterprise PM, similar to an ERA 835 file. The electronic file comes from a bank instead of a payer. A practice would set this up with their financial institution. Patients that owe balances would send their payments to the bank instead of sending it to the practice. The bank would then deposit the money into the practice's account and send the practice a file that can be imported into NextGen® Enterprise PM, just as an ERA file is imported. A transaction batch is automatically created when the file is imported, and a report is generated similar to the ERA Import Posting report. Set Default Transaction Codes for Pre-Services Payment or Bad Debt Transaction

When you open the Payment Entry window from the Estimate Patient Cost window to make a payment, transaction codes already selected in the practice preferences are utilized by default. If you want to change transaction codes, you can change them as desired in the Payment Entry window. Open NextGen® Enterprise PM and select Admin > Preferences > Practice. On the Practice Preferences window, select Tran Codes from the preference list. In the Default Transaction Codes section, do the following: To make an advance payment, select a transaction code from Pre-Service Payment To make a transaction for a bad-debt encounter, select a transaction code from Pre-Service Bad Debt Select OK. Tran Codes Practice Preferences Descriptions

The following table describes the fields in Tran Codes practice preferences. Default Transaction Codes Field Description Patient Cash Do one of the following: Select a transaction code to default to the Pay Code field on the Payment Entry window when users enter encounter-level patient payments. Leave this field blank to require users to select the appropriate code during payment entry. Note: The code must be setup in the Transaction Codes master file as follows: Type = Payment; Source = Patient; Sign Type = Negative.
