Rendering Provider Effective and Expiration Dates for Provider Numbers

You can set the effective and expiration dates for a rendering provider’s payer provider numbers. The following list contains the conditions that control how this feature works: The Effective Date and Expiration Date fields for the rendering provider’s payer provider number are required fields. However, if you do not want to use this feature then, by default, when you add a new payer to the rendering provider, the Effective Date field automatically displays the current day's date. The Expiration Date field automatically displays the current day's date 100 years in the future. The rendering provider can have multiple provider numbers for a payer, but only one provider number can be valid at one time. Therefore, the effective and expiration dates cannot overlap in time. The effective and expiration dates set up for the rendering provider’s payer provider number affect any CPT4 or CPT4 code ranges that are also set up for the provider for that practice and service location. Add a Patient Provider

Open the Person Information or Patient Information window for the desired person or patient. Select the Provider tab. Select the open menu , and select New. The Add Patient Provider window appears. Select a user-defined provider type from Preference Name. This field is required. Note: Your system administrator manages providers from Practice Preferences, Providers. Select a Provider. To search for a specific provider, select . The Provider Lookup window opens. Note: The providers listed for selection are those that are flagged with the selected Preference Name in the Providers master file in File Maintenance. Enter an Effective Date to start for the selected patient provider in mm/dd/yyyy format, if applicable. Enter an Expiration Date to end for the selected patient provider in mm/dd/yyyy format, if applicable. If an expiration date was entered, select an Expiration Reason, if applicable. Set Up a Default Location for Provider Numbers

To set up a provider that has the same individual Provider number for payers at all or several practice locations: From the Master Files - System list, select Providers. Double-click a provider name. The Modify Provider Information dialog box displays. Select the Practice tab. In the Service Location field, select <Default>. Select one of the following options based on the information below: To set up the provider on the default payer, double-click on the Default row in the Group Information section. Because this is the setup for the default payer, the Payer Name field is disabled. To set up a specific payer for the provider, right-click in the Group Information section, then select New. Because this is the setup for a specific payer, a payer must be selected in the Payer Name field. If this is a new payer, select the arrow in the Payer Name field and select the payer. If this is the default payer, you cannot select a new payer. Enter the provider's number in the Provider Number field.
