To access Practice Preferences, do one of the following:
Select the

In File Maintenance, select
Master Files - System
and select
Practices
.
Double-click a practice, and then select
Preferences
.
The
Practice Preferences
window opens
Select the
Chart
Practice Preferences.
Select the appropriate option from the
Release of Information
field.

Setting the Practice Default for the Release of Information
A patient's release-of-information claim status is information that may be required by some payers and is sent electronically. You can set Release of Information at the encounter, practice or payer level. Practice level for patient charts. The setting becomes the default for every encounter at that practice. Set the payer default for release of information - this becomes the default when the payer is associated with an encounter. The payer-level setting overrides the practice-level setting. The default is stored in the insurance record and displays on the Patient Insurance - of the Encounter window. If Release of Information is not set in the Practice Preferences or in the Payers master file, then it must be set for each encounter when it is required by the payer. If a Release of Information default is set in the Chart practice preferences but a payer requires a different setting, you can set a different value for the payer. The payer value overrides the value set in the Chart practice preferences for any encounter that the payer is attached to. In File Maintenance, select Master Files - System and then select Payers. In the Payers list, double-click the appropriate payer. The Modify Payer Information window opens. Select the System tab, and then select the appropriate option from the Release of Information field.
