Adjust Counters

From the Master Files - System list, select Counters. The Counters window opens. In the Counter field, select the counter type that you want to set. Next value generated will be indicates the next number that will be applied. Highest [Counter] Number for practice/system is displays the highest number last applied for the selected counter. Whether "practice" or "system" displays in this message indicates whether the counter is system wide or practice-specific. In the Adjust counter so next value will be field, type the new number for the counter. This number is the new starting number for any records that are created. Each time you create a subsequent record, this number increases by one and becomes that record's counter number. Select Set to save your changes. Select Close. Note: Account, Encounter, and Medical Record Numbers are the only practice-specific counters. Statements for Accounts with a Zero or Credit Patient Balance

Statements do not generate for accounts that have a zero patient balance, a negative (credit) patient balance, or a patient balance that falls outside of the Account Statement Amount Range specified on the Statement Options window. In versions prior to 5.9.1, when the Show Only Encounters with a Patient Balance check box is selected on the Statement Options window, the logic to suppress statements for accounts with a balance less than the minimum statement amount. The total encounter patient balance, for those encounters included on the statement, is compared to the minimum amount. As of version 5.9.1, when the Show Only Encounters with a Patient Balance check box is selected, the logic to suppress statements for accounts with a balance less than the minimum statement amount. Applying Patient Payments towards the Encounter Balance

The application does not automatically create a negative patient balance for a patient when applying a co-payment or any patient payment. Instead, the payment is applied to the insurance bucket with a balance. It is then applied to the other insurance buckets until their balances are zero. When all insurance buckets equal zero, any remaining dollars are moved into the patient bucket. If the patient bucket has a zero balance, a negative balance is created. Components of the Account Settings

Account Settings Print Statement This field enables you to specify printing hard copies of the account's statements. Last Statement Print Date: Displays the last statement date for the selected account. Next Statement Print Date This date field enables you to specify the next time statements automatically prints for this account. Note: In the statement process, at least one statement is created for every account where the Next Statement Print Date is less than or equal to the date of statement process. Statement Counter Date Displays the number of statements that have been sent. This counter is reset to zero when a patient does one of the following; Pays a minimum flat dollar amount. Pays an amount greater than or equal to the minimum acceptable percentage set in the Acceptable % of Self Pay in the statement section of Practice Preferences. Reversing Automatic Adjustments

When you remove insurance from an encounter with automatic adjustments applied to charges from an assigned contract and there are no other posted or unposted transactions applied to the encounter, the automatic adjustments are applied to the encounter for the payer. The application reverses the adjustment and removes the insurance from the encounter. Note: The application applies new adjustments to applicable charges if you attach a new payer to the encounter that has a contract with auto adjustments for the charges. You can delete a primary insurance for an encounter that has an automatic adjustment applied to its charges from an assigned contract and the encounter has no other posted or unposted transactions applied to it. Configure Practice Preferences for Sliding Fee Schedules

The Sliding Fee Practice Preferences include options that control how sliding fee schedules and adjustments function within a practice. To configure sliding fee options for the practice, do the following: Access File Maintenance. Select System Master Files, then PM, and then Practices. The Practice List window opens. From the list, select and open the desired practice. The Modify Practice Information window opens. Select the Preferences button. The Practice Preferences window opens. From the Preference List on the left, select Sliding Fee. Use the following table to select the desired sliding fee options for the practice. To save changes and close the window, select OK. Disable sliding fee adjustments for encounters that have insurance attached: Select this check box to disable the ability for users to perform a demand sliding fee adjustment on encounters with a remaining patient balance after insurance has paid.
