In the External preferences in the Practice Preferences window, you can set preferences for connectivity with external systems, communication with third-party applications, immunization registry, real-time address validation, and clearinghouses.

| Enable External System Connectivity | Connects to an external system such as a Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO). | 
| Override Enterprise System Connectivity | Overrides enterprise system connectivity. | 
| Process no show appointments for third party applications | Processes no-show appointments for third-party applications. | 
| Show Immunization Registry Patient Status in PM | Displays the Immunization Registry Information section on the Status tab of the Add/Modify Patient Information window. When you turn on this feature, you can track the following immunization information for each patient:

| Enable Address Validation | Turns on real-time address validation for addresses entered in NextGen® Enterprise PM and File Maintenance. Each address is verified against the United States Postal Service (USPS) Address Management System. Real-time address validation can occur in the following applications:

| Enable Practice Registration | Allows practice-level USPS registration to use the USPS feature, eliminating the need for individual user registration. | 
| Receive Unabbreviated City | Allows the practice administrator to receive non-abbreviated city names when using the USPS system. | 
| External ID | USPS username. | 
| Password | Password received in the USPS email. | 
| USPS Client ID | USPS client ID received from the USPS developer portal.

| Client Security Key | Client security key received from USPS email.

| Click Here to register for USPS User ID | To register for USPS, open the Registration for USPS Web Tools page or the USPS Developer Portal. | 
| Clearinghouse | Opens the third-party clearinghouse website. You can select NGCH, Waystar, or both clearinghouses. |
