Document Cast and Splint Procedures
- Open the IORTS Castsplint Apply template.
- Click the Type Filter field, and select the cast or splint type from the list.
The grid shows only the items that match the selected type.
- Click the Body Part Filter field, and select the body part from the list.
The grid shows only the items that match the selected body part.
- Select a cast or splint item from the grid.
Note: Based on the selected item, the Application and Supplies fields are filled automatically. The applicable fields in the Waterproof section are also filled automatically.
- To suppress the application code and bill only for the supplies when doing initial fracture care or repair, select one of the following:
- This is the initial cast and fx care was billed this visit
- Repair of Cast/Splint
If you do not select one of these options, the application and supply codes are billed.
Note: When the IORTS Castsplint Apply template is opened from a fracture care template, the This is the initial cast and fx care was billed this visit option is selected by default.The application code transfers to the Finalize Visit template as Submitted. You cannot submit charges on the application code, but you can view it. - In the Waterproof section, select the Tape or Liner check box to apply waterproofing to the cast.
Note: If the waterproofing is enabled on the Cast & Splint Configuration template, you can charge for the waterproofing. For more information, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community, and download the Configuration Guide for NextGen® Orthopedic Suite.
- The default number of tape rolls set up on the configuration template is shown in the # Rolls field. You can change the number of tape rolls as needed.
- The costs for tape and liner are obtained from the SIM Library and displayed in the Cost fields. Total is filled automatically based on the tape and liner costs.
- To select the position of the cast or splint, click the Positioning field.
- If the patient can bear their own weight, select the Weight bearing check box.
- Click the Appearance of extremity after cast removal field, and select the appropriate options from the list.
Note: Selecting a value with a colon (for example, Blisters located on) opens a list for you to select the body parts or manually enter the body parts.
- To add the examinations findings, use the Physician Examination field.
- To enter the additional details, use the Additional Details field.
- Select the Cast applied/removed by check box.
The name of the person who applied or removed cast and the date and time of the procedure are automatically filled in the corresponding fields.
- Click Add to Grid.
Note: If you click Add to Grid without selecting a procedure, a message appears instructing you to select the procedure to be added to the grid.The order is placed and the procedure information appears in the grid.
- Select the Performed by check box.
The name of the provider who performed the procedure and the date and time of the procedure are automatically filled in the corresponding fields.
- Click Save & Close.
Note: If you click Save & Close without adding the documented details to the grid, a message appears stating that you have not saved the information to the grid. You can click Yes to return to the template and add the selected procedure to the grid, or click No to close the template without adding the procedure to the grid.
