You can configure the settings to show or hide the CPOE Order Search Bar in
NextGen® Enterprise EHR
at the following levels.
Practice level in File Maintenance.
User level in
NextGen® Enterprise EHR
.
To configure the CPOE Order Search Bar at the practice level, do the following:
Open File Maintenance.
Under
Master Files
, select
EHR
, and then select
Practices
.
The
Practices List
window opens.
Double-click a practice name.
The
Modify Practice Information
window opens.
Select
Preferences
.
The
Practice Preferences
window opens.
Under
Preference List
, select
EHR
.
Select the
Enable CPOE Order Search Bar
check box.
Note:
Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) selects the
Enable CPOE Order Search Bar
check box by default.
The CPOE Order Search Bar appears in
NextGen® Enterprise EHR
.
To enable the CPOE Order Search Bar at the user level, do the following:

Assign Permissions to Hide the CPOE Order Search Bar
For a user group that does not need to search for orders, you can configure the settings to hide the CPOE Order Search Bar. Note: By default, the practice-level user group rights permit users to display the CPOE Order Search Bar in a patient chart in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For more information on access rights in System Administrator, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest System Administrator Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. Open System Administrator. To assign permissions to a user group to hide the CPOE Order Search Bar, in the left pane, expand the Enterprise and Practice folders, and then select the user group. Select the Rights tab. Expand MODULES. Expand Medical Records and select Orders. Under Access Rights, clear the Add check box. Note: Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) selects the View check box by default, which allows you to view the placed orders in the Orders module. Select Save. Configure Practice-Level Tags
You can create a practice-level favorite order items list to save time while selecting orders in Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE). Open File Maintenance. Under Master Files, select EHR, and then select Order Test Favorites. The Order Test Favorites List window opens. Double-click an order test favorite. The Modify Order Test Favorites window opens. In Description, edit the name of the practice tag. To edit the list, select the details icon in the Modify Order Test Favorites window. The Order Test Favorites window opens. Under Available, search for an order item. To add an available order item to the Included list, select the order item, and then select right arrow icon. To remove an order item from the Included list, select an order item, and then select the left arrow icon. To save your changes, select OK. Parent topic: CPOE Configuration Requirements

Configure Medical Necessity Check for Laboratory and Diagnostic Order Items
In File Maintenance, you can configure the settings for Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) to automatically run Medical Necessity Check when you select a laboratory or diagnostic order item. Note: For more information on Practice Preferences in File Maintenance, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest File Maintenance Preferences Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. Open File Maintenance. Under Master Files, select EHR, and then select Practices.The Practices List window opens. Double-click a practice name.The Modify Practice Information window opens. Select Preferences.The Practice Preferences window opens. Under Preference List, select Orders Module, and then select the Lab/Rad tab. To automatically run the Medical Necessity Check when you select a laboratory or diagnostic order item, select Run Medical Necessity Check when order is saved. Select OK. Configure CPOE Search API URL
Before you begin Ensure that Internet connectivity is available on the machine running the upload. Ensure that network connectivity or the third-party server is up and running. For more information on connectivity to external services, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest External Applications User Guide for NextGen® Enterprise. Ensure that you allowlist the https://api.prod.cpoe.nextgenaws.net/cpoe/api/v1.0 URL on your network. When you set up a new environment, you must specify the Amazon Web Services™ (AWS) instance location in System Administrator to enable the Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) search functionality. Important: If you upgrade NextGen® Enterprise from version 5.9.2020.1 to version Enterprise 8, you must ensure to install and configure the latest utility, version Enterprise 8. CPOE Configuration Requirements
Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) is available on NextGen® Enterprise EHR from version 5.9.2020.1 onwards. Before using CPOE, ensure that you have: Set the screen resolution on your system to 1366 x 768 pixels or higher. Configured the Orders module in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. For more information on the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Orders module, go to NextGen Healthcare Success Community and download the latest Orders Module User Guide for NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Enabled the CPOE Order Search Bar in File Maintenance > Practice Preferences > EHR so that it appears in NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Note: When you enable the CPOE Order Search Bar at the practice level in File Maintenance, users can hide the CPOE Order Search Bar at the user level by clearing the CPOE Order Search Bar option in the View menu of NextGen® Enterprise EHR.
