Ensuring More Accurate Immunizations Schedules

The Immunizations module includes rules and conditions to guide the system in displaying the proper vaccines to be administered to a patient. These conditions and rules are based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) immunizations scheduling recommendations and other governmental guidelines. As new regulations and patient safety considerations occur in various iterations, the schedules and different vaccine dosage rules that the Immunizations module uses are updated. The system also evaluates the components of a patient’s chart to determine if additional doses of a vaccine are needed, such as the patient age, dates of previous doses administered, and number of doses already completed. Viewing the Immunizations Statuses on the Chart or Recommendation window

The Immunizations statuses, which display on the Chart view and Recommendation view, provide information about each immunization using symbols, colors, and other visual representations. The Immunization status calculations incorporate the patient's age and the interval between doses for all vaccines in a series, and reflects the CDC vaccine catch-up schedules. Refer to the following table for a brief description of Immunization statuses. Status Description Due Now Due within a recommended dose period, for example, 4 to 6 years Past Due Due after the recommended dose period Current No doses due at this time Current* No doses due: The patient has reached the maximum age to receive further doses No further doses due because of how the vaccine series has been administered previously Due xx/xx/xxxx Dose is due but should not be given until date shown Pending The immunization is ordered and awaiting administration. Hiding Pediatric Vaccines Recommendations for Adult Patients

You can hide pediatric vaccine recommendations from displaying for adult patients over 18 years of age. When you select this practice preference, the Immunizations module displays the following information. The Chart View displays: All vaccines on a patient's chart (pediatric or adult) All vaccines recommended for adults only (up until patient's age) Status of adult vaccines only The Recommendation View displays: All vaccines recommended for adults only Status of adult vaccines only The Create New Immunization Order window displays: All vaccines set up in the Vaccine favorites (in File Maintenance) Status of adult vaccines only. Note: For the Tdap vaccine only, the system does not consider the Ignore Pediatric Recommendation for Adults practice preference when calculating the Tdap Immunization status for adults or patients 11 years of age and older. Viewing the Individual Vaccine Statuses on the Orders Summary tab

In addition to viewing the NextGen Status on the Orders Summary tab, you can view the vaccine status for each Immunization Order in the Description column. For example, a provider orders one Immunization order with four vaccines for a patient in the same visit. However, only one of these vaccines was fully administered. In the Description column, the system displays different vaccine statuses (in parenthesis) for the Immunization order, as follows: Hep B (ped/adol, 2 dose): (Refused) TDaP: (Refused) Td (7 yrs or older): (Fully Administered) Hep A (ped/adol, 2 dose): (Partially Administered) On the Orders Summary tab, when the Immunizations Order life cycle is complete for each order, the system displays Complete in the NextGen Status column. Viewing Immunizations Schedules and Vaccine Statuses

The Immunizations module enables you to access Immunizations schedules to determine when an immunization is due for a patient. You can also track the immunizations life cycle, including the immunization status. You can view the following schedule types when you access the Immunizations module: Chart Recommendation Registry Select the Immunizations Chart or Recommendation Schedules Viewing Additional Immunization Details on a Schedule The system displays detailed information about Immunizations when you uselect an Immunization status on the Chart view or Recommendation view. Viewing Excluded Vaccine Details You can view details of excluded vaccines by selecting the status column of the vaccine. Viewing Pediatric and Adult Immunizations Display Options You can set the system to display or hide pediatric vaccine recommendations for adult patients from Practice Preferences in File Maintenance.
