Upload Electronic Prior Authorization Documents Within the ePA Accelerator

Before you begin

  • You must be enrolled for Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) in System Administrator.
  • Patient must have Rx eligibility.
  • Patient must have an active pharmacy benefit manager(PBM) coverage.

You can send attachments electronically to the patient's PBM by selecting Manage ePA in the Medication module. You can send additional details to support a patient's prior authorization request only as PDF files.

You can upload multiple PDF files for PARequest and PAAppealRequest messages through the ePA Accelerator. If you send multiple attachments, they are combined into one file, and arranged in the order of the files sent. The combined file has the same name as the first file of the attachment.

  1. Open Medications module.
  2. Run the Rx eligibility for the patient and then select Prescribe New.
  3. Search and select the medication using the formulary search option.
    The medication you selected appears under the Temporary status.

  4. Select and enter information in the following fields:
    • Quantity
    • Duration
    • Refills
    • Problem
    • Dispense As Written
  5. Select the applicable pharmacy and select Accept.
    The medication status appears as Active in the medication grid.
  6. Select Initiate ePA.
    The Prior Auth Status appears as In Progress in the medication grid.
  7. Select Manage ePA.
    The Electronic Prior Authorization window opens.
  8. Select the applicable options and comments on the Electronic Prior Authorization window.
  9. In the Attachments section, select UPLOAD FILE.

  10. Select SUBMIT.
