Set up Required Fields to Display When Creating an Immunizations Order

In File Maintenance, select System > Practices. Double-click to open a Practice and then select Preferences. Select Orders Module, and then select All tab. To set the fields as mandatory when creating a creating an Immunization order, select When creating new Immunization order from the Data Points Context list. Select the Effective Date to indicate what date the field displays the field as required, and select the Open Record button. The Data Points Context window opens. To mark the field as required, highlight the field (or fields), and select the right arrow to move the field to the Included section. For example, highlight Registry and select the right arrow to move it to the Included section. The field appears in the Included section. If required, continue moving any additional fields, and select OK. The field or fields selected as required, display in the Field Name section. Setting Up Required Immunizations Orders Fields Best Practices

Based on your practice needs and the Immunizations Order workflow, you may need to consider which fields to set up as required (or Mandatory Data Points) when selecting vaccines and then administering the Immunizations order. While most of the fields you would set up as required display on the Vaccines Details tab, there may be other fields your practice would like to set up as required when selecting vaccines or that can be applied to the entire order, such as Registry. Setting up Required fields for Immunizations Processing

For more efficient order processing and best clinical practices, your practice may need to set up certain fields as required. Required fields (or Mandatory Data Points) can be set up for all of the order types, that is, Lab, Radiology, and Immunizations. For example, your practice wants the Diagnosis field to be required when ordering a lab or radiology test; or, if you are ordering Immunizations, your practice determines Route and Expired Date should be required fields. You can set up fields as required in File Maintenance Practice Preferences. During the Immunizations ordering workflow, the required fields display as Red on the appropriate Immunizations window when you start the Immunization process (for example, selecting a vaccine) and when you complete an immunization administration (on the Vaccine Details tab). Select File Maintenance > Master Files > System > EHR > Practices > Preferences > Orders Module. Select All tab.The Mandatory Data Points options appear. To display the required fields for a certain order action, such as creating a lab order, in the Data Points Context field select the appropriate order action.
