Access External Patient Education from the Problems Module

You can access the External Patient Education resource from the Problems module. The external resource collects ICD-9, ICD-10 (as available), or SNOMED CT (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terms) code information for the selected problem and the patient’s age, age range, and gender. This information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Problems module for a patient. Enter a new problem into the Problem List tab or the Billing ICD List tab, if required. Note: The Problem List tab has the SNOMED CT codes while the Billing ICD List tab has the ICD-9, or where applicable, ICD-10 codes. Do one of the following: Right-click the problem, and then select Resources > External Patient Education. Select the problem, and then select Resources > External Patient Education from the toolbar of the Problems module. The application directs you to the external URL set up in File Maintenance. Access External Patient Education from the Procedures Module

You can access the External Patient Education resource from the Procedures module. The external resource collects CPT4 information for the selected procedure and the patient’s age, age range, and gender. This information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Procedures module for a patient. Enter a new procedure for the patient, if required. Right-click the procedure, and then select Resources > External Patient Education. The application directs you to the external URL set up in File Maintenance. Access External Patient Education from the Medications Module

You can access the External Patient Education resource from the Medications module. The external resource collects the RxNorm information for the selected medication and the patient’s age, age range, and gender. This information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Medications module for a patient. Enter a new medication for the patient, if required. Do one of the following: Right-click the medication, and then select Resources > External Patient Education. Select the medication, and then select Resources > External Patient Education from the toolbar of the Medications module. The application directs you to the external URL set up in File Maintenance. Note: The External Patient Education resource is also available from the Medication Search window. You can access the External Patient Education resource from the Medication Allergies module. The external resource collects RxNorm information for the selected allergy and the patient’s age, age range, and gender. This information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Medication Allergies module for a patient. If required, enter a new allergy. Right-click the allergy, and then select Resources > External Patient Education. You can access the External Patient Education resource from the Orders module. The external resource collects the LOINC code or CPT4 codes for the selected lab result and the patient’s age, age range, gender, and observation interpretation flag (such as normal or abnormal). This information is passed through the InfoButton to the external system. Open NextGen® Enterprise EHR. Open the Orders module for a patient. Note: Orders must have results before you can access external educational resources. Select the result, and then select Resources > External Patient Education on the Orders module toolbar. External Patient Education

External Patient Education refers to educational resources that are available while connecting to a code (such as ICD-9, ICD-10, or CPT) or a description (such as RxNorm) to an external resource accessible through a URL that is set up in File Maintenance. When you right-click a code or term, the HL7 InfoButton accesses a URL to an external resource and launches the website in a web browser. Note: NextGen Healthcare recommends that you use the External Patient Education link to access resources that are useful to your patients' recovery and care, such as health behaviors, preventative education, and instruction about behaviors and activities that can assist in patients understanding about their care. Websites with InfoButton-compliant functionality may require subscriptions. Vendors (companies that provide patient education) are not required to adhere to the HL7 standards.
