Orthopedic Patient Encounters

The Orthopedics User Guide forNextGen®Adaptive Content Engine provides an explanation of and instructions on how to use the NextGen® Adaptive Content Engine for Orthopedic office and virtual visit encounters, document physical exams, fracture care, and pre-operative and post-operative visits specifically for an Orthopedic patient. This document is intended for Orthopedic medical professionals, such as nurses, providers and office staff who are responsible for documenting and processing patient information.

The Configuration Procedures section of this guide explains how to set up a default template for every encounter, modify the chief complaints that display in the Reason for Visit panel, configure the links on each tab, and select an alternative view for the Physical Exam data on the generated documents.

The next three sections take you through a typical workflow for the intake staff, provider, and check out staff. While every practice will come up with its own workflow, the intake staff will typically use the Home Page - ORT, Intake and Histories templates to document their part in the patient's encounter. The provider will do the bulk of his work on the SOAP template, but may also use the Home Page - ORT to review the chart before entering the exam room and the Finalize template for completing his portion of recording the visit. The Checkout template provides easy access for the front desk employees to view today's orders, provide documents and/or instructions to the patient, and send tasks to other staff at the practice.

The Physical Exam Templates section provides a summary of each of the eleven PE templates.

The Joint Aspiration/Injection Template section explains how to document procedures provided to patients through aspirations and injections on the Joint Aspiration/Injection template.

Instructions in the next section take the reader through the process of documenting on the fracture care templates: Fracture Casting Strapping and Fracture Care Rapid Note.

Learn how to use the Pre- and Post-Op templates in the final two sections of this user guide. Step-by-step instructions are available on how to record the surgery scheduling details on the Ort Surgery Scheduling template. Discover how the Post-Op Rapid Note template is used to record surgical history, history of present illness, and physical exam findings. Providers can also document assessment and plan details, and schedule a follow-up visit from this template.
